Maybe I just don't like Sci-fi.

I saw the Star Wars movies for the first time in 2009, when I was 19 years old.

I liked Episode 4 and 5. When I watched ep 6 I was less than impressed. Then came the 1-3 movies.

In any case I tried watching the original trilogy today for the first time in over a year and they were so darn boring. Do you guys ever feel like your movie tastes can change like that in just a year or such?

Everyone's tastes change as they get older. I don't like things now that I loved a year ago.

No, I have never experienced a movie taste change like that. In fact, I still watch Fievel Goes West regularly. However I will say I have never stayed awake through a whole star wars movie.

Odd...the older I get the more I appreciate them (the originals). They couldn't be less boring.

I've never been able to get into star wars... Family Guy gives me a funnier, distorted overview anyway :D

Edit: Or should it be 'more funny'... meh

Your so right, who cares about things like character development or plot. Those movies needed some CGI, and more light sabers, a lot more light sabers.

I used to love the movies. Then I discovered the EU.

In my opinion, the books are far superior.

I feel the same way. When I was young I loved them for different reasons than I do now. I think I enjoy them even more now that I'm older and understand the relations between the characters.

I was the exact opposite. I thought 4 and 5 were okay, and 6 was very good. The new ones just sucked for the most part though.

They're enjoyable, but they damaged movies in many ways. Star Wars long with Jaws started the whole franchise era of Hollywood, and signaled the end of new Hollywood. IMO, movies were better before Star Wars' cultural influence.

I don't understand what you mean. Like, sequels are bad for movies now?

That depends on what you value from films you watch. From my subjective values, yes. As Hollywood has become more and more concerned with franchises, the American movie industry has become more and more boring, with lifeless sequels and unimaginative remakes, that do nothing but jerk off the original film, if that. The really distinct auteur directors are dying out, and there aren't that many people I see rising to replace them. Films these days are created by studios, not by artists.

I saw the first 2/3 of the original trilogy and I enjoyed them. Sure, it's got the 80's cheese factor, but they've held up a lot better than other movies have.

Hmm... I love supporting effort, great effort with monetary spendings. I think it's important to live in a world where people who put a lot of effort into a product see a reward.

However I'm no film elitist. To me a movie is meant to be fun, and that's pretty much all. Plus one must blame the people for supporting the same old same old.

Anyway I don't think the movies are cheesy or anything. I think they're spectacular considering they're over 20 years old! However I just find them boring. Like, I like when the music plays and Darth Vader appears, but like I said I just don't like Sci-fi, space ships and that stuff.

You have to remember that 4-6 were from the late '70s and early '80s, and 1-3 just suck.

I always felt like that every movie in the Star Wars series were movies that you watched once and never watched again, if you did you got bored, or you watched Episode 5, the only one I have watched more than 1 time and didn't quit 1/4 of a way through the second time watching.

I guess Im kind of there with you TC. I never really appreciated Star Wars though, about the only Star Wars related thing that I truly enjoyed was the original Kotor and Jedi Knight.

..

And Space Balls...

I disagree. I'll explain why briefly: Anakin fell to the dark side because he got married when he wasn't supposed too. In the EU, jedi marry. I don.... I don't get it.

Blasphemer! The originals are timeless classics. Not without their flaws, but they're entertaining, good vs. evil story with sweet effects, bizarre aliens, and lightsabers. How is that NOT great?

I most certainly come to appreciate a film more, or less when I get older. Though I never cared for Star Wars, but I didn't grow up with it, so I don't have the same emotional connection to it like others...

I like the Star Wars universe which is more detailed via the sourcebooks. The movies are okay. But I think I prefer the Star Trek shows better especially the TNG-Voyager-DS9 time period.
