i have a budget of around 1200 - 1400 $ and i need a good versatile laptop...

any suggestions?

Well that too... :? It doesn't really matter when it comes to laptops... If it were a desktop, I'd tell him to build his own.

Mac books are good yeah. I have an iMac and a REALY old VAIO he's prbably a windows user. Linux owns them both though ;).

I have an HP dv6000 and with the exception of all the HP crap they install in your pc, it's actually pretty nice, especially for 700 dollars. Another complaint is that i can't get Linux running on this thing for the life of me something wrong with the APIC.

Thats the same thing i said to my friend. But I lean towards macbooks or pro since i use a iMac

If you want style and a lack of features and crappy hardware get a macbook, if you want something reliable go for acer
