Looking to spend around $100-$200 for her Christmas present... she wants to learn and I'm curious what the best bang for the buck would be. Obviously a solid top would be nice but other things to consider is size and comfortableness for a female.
My research indicates that I could get an Fender Starcaster Strat Electric Guitar Pack Are there any other decent options in the $100-$200 range?

One of the Fender/Squier starter packs is your best bet. I think Ibanez does one as well.

Ugh..Don't get a Starcaster (Of course unless it's the old authentic Fender Starcaster, but thats a different story).

The least you should get is a Squire Strat Bullet, Affinity, or Standard edition. Go check out Guitar Center of Musiciansfriend for some deals, they both have some awesome christmas deals going on right now.

Hope that helps a bit.

No problem. I'm just worried about Guitar center, because thats a place to go to buy stuff if you already know what you want to get. Rarely will you get great help, but sometimes there are people there that know their stuff.

If you can find a bundle with a Squier Strat or an Ibanez, I'd say definitely look into them.

Squier, Ibanez and Jackson have well built cheap guitars that will last forever and, if she gets into it, a few years from now, she'll just need to have better pick ups installed if she wants to get a better tone. I'd stay away from those kits that include amps/DVDs/straps and all that stuff. The guitars are usually bad, the amp is something she'll want to upgrade within two or three weaks, the straps break after three days and you just can't learn how to play guitar from a DVD.

Also, stay away from guitars with floating tremolos. Cheap guitars with that kind of bridges tend to have the cheapest types of licensed tremolos. Changing strings with a GOOD floating tremolo is a complicated process; trying to do the same with a CHEAP floating tremolo without having the whole guitar going out of tune after 10 minutes is nearly impossible unless you block it with a piece of wood, which kind of defeats the purpose.

This is actually a pretty nice deal, especially if you are looking more into a bundle.

See if you could go try and find a deal without a bundle though. Those bundles are normally a bit of a ripoff and come with average stuff.

By the way..I got an email from GC for a $30 off of any purchase $199+, so try adding your email in their site and they'll send you that coupon.

Heres the link for the coupon. Just make sure you don't order online, check it out in store.

A cheepo fender strat should do the trick. Not the most romantic thing in the world though.

If you can spend a little more then get her a schecter, look on amazon. Good quality and they're generally pretty cheap.

A Squier Strat would be ideal.

it doesn't matter the "type' of guitar. as long as t has a fairly thin neck. my gf has a few electric guitars that i always "borrow" for ages. they all have nice thin necks and he can shred on all of them

Yah my Grandma got me a Squier bullet for christmas 4 years ago and it is a downright good guitar. It does its job right. Might I suggest an acoustic guitar though? I think that a girl would be more inclined to play mellow music and not rock out with distortion.
