i read them and they were great.

a lot of people who read them think of they're really awesome and brag about it cause they actually read a book instead of just seeing the movies. you'll find a lot of LOTR fans around here that are like that.

I prefer Peter Jackson's imagination rather than mine, so the movies it is for me.

JRR Tolkein invented fantasy. The Hobbit and the LoTR series are unbeatable in the genre.

I've read The Hobbit and the first two LOTR books. I never finished The Return of the King. But I have also seen all the movies.

I liked The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Rong a whole lot. I thought Return of the king was good. And I thought the second half of Two Towers was meh.

I lke the Lotr serie very much but for beginners you should start of with the hobbit, it also clears some things op in de LOTR books. and if you're really intrested read the silmarillion.

I love reading fantasy novels, but LOTR... Honestly i can't stand J. R. R. Tolkien's writing style. I have tried reading LOTR, and the hobbit.

You're saying that no writer could ever make a fantasy novel that would be better than J. R. R. Tolkien's? :|

1. You have read every fantasy novel ever published?

2. This won't go anywhere because it's just opinion. No matter how strange i think it sounds.

3. That a writer gets some inspiration from Tolkien. Doesn't mean that his/her work is inferior imo.

I read the Hobbit, when I was about 9, so I was estatic when the triology was coming out in the cinema, after seeing the first film I got the books and read them too, I found them alot harder to read than the Hobbit, but still very very good

I thought the books rather good to be honest, but I found Fellowship at the start to be a bit slow going. Now I'm working my way through Tolkien's other books (read The Silmarillion, now reading Children of Hurin).

I've read the whole trilogy a few times. It's a little dense and florid at times, but overall a great read.

I did'nt like the part in the Fellowship where after the ordeal with the barrow wights , Tom Bombadil encouraged the hobbits to strip and run naked with each other :|

I read em in middle school, really liked them but I'm sure I'd get more out of the books if I read them again once I have the time.
