Lord of the Rings VS. Game of Thrones. Who wins?

This includes both the books and the television/movie adaptions as well. I know, I know, comparing a TV Show to a Movie? That's really stupid, but judge it based on overall quality, I mean for both movies and TVs they both deliver a high amount of quality in each area. But which has the better overall quality in both it's books and adaptations for both movie and television? :?

Lord of the Rings beats out Game of Thrones in terms of books, although both are fantastic. Hate to admit that I haven't watched GoT yet, although I'm going to in the near future.

Haven't read Game of Thrones, but I've seen the show. The Lord of the Rings is better.

In all honesty, I genuinely believe that the Game of Thrones books are better than LotR. I dislike Tolkien's style, the books for me were less enjoyable thanthe movies.

As long as it's The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, then you have a good excuse. :P

Game of Thrones is good, but Lord of the Rings is classic and where my love of fantasy began. Lord of the Rings for me.

There are so many fantasy series that are better than A Song Of Ice And Fire, and Lord of the Rings is one of them.

Martin has this issue: he has far too many characters running around, and it's hard to relate to any of them because... there's too many of them.

For example: I could understand Tyrion Lannister if I could spend more time seeing the events from his perspective. Unfortunately, once you get invested in what he's trying to accomplish, you are thrown over to Sansa Stark... or Arya... or Danerys... etc.

Lord of the Rings keeps it to two or three different viewpoints, and only three divergent paths. The language may be tricky to get through (it was written in the mid-20th century, so some of the words are a bit archaic... which, to me, gives it flavor) but the journey is well-worth the effort.

I have not read any of the books from both sides. I thought LotR was a decent movie nothing great. But I love the GoT TV seires. So GoT gets my vote.

Oh man. I rewatched LotR Extended Editions and I really enjoyed it, but I realised that the parts I hated the most in LotR were undoubtedly with Frodo/Sam/Gollum (Sam gets one of the most badass speeches at the end of TT though), and while Merry/Pippin are fun to watch, what I really sat up and paid attention to was the history and relations between the factions (Rohan and Gondor, for example). When Theoden was all like "WHERE WAS GONDOR WHEN..."

Ate that sh!t right up.

I like that so far in GoT, politics has taken the forefront to fantasy. The only problem is, in what I've spoiled of the series, there doesn't really seem to be satisfying conclusions. Stuff, crazy stuff, happens, but it seems to me it may be lacking some of the cathartic moments from LotR, but I hope this isn't the case. There's only so much I can take before I get frustrated.

I'd say the world and fiction of Middle Earth has more fantasy elements than GOT, thus Id say its better. Personally I think its better on every front as well.

Either one is good. I personally would recommend reading it first but the show stays pretty faithful to the books(so far) so you won't really miss all that much from watching the show first. OT: They're both great but I have to give it to LotR.

I still haven't finished that last book I was reading. I don't read much in fact. This particular one I am reading is a very good book for it actually had me enjoy reading it, but since it's so good, I don't want it to end. v_v

This. Actual killing? Last time I checked LOTR certainly had its fair share.

I can't make a decision like that. The LoTR movies are amazing while the GoT TV show wasn't the greatest. However, the LoTR books don't compare to the Song of Ice and Fire series.

So LoTR wins the movie department, GoT wins the book department.

a song of ice and fire isnt over yet so i cant compare it to a completed story. its starting off well and i probably like it more than lotr so far, but it would be for nothing if martin screws up the series (and yes, there are tons potentially bad ways to end the series right now).
