Awful just awful. I don't consider it Metallica. It makes St. Anger look good and thats saying ALOT! Metallica should've made an album like their last one, Death Magnetic. I liked Death Magnetic it was like Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightnting, and Their 5th album. C'mon Metallica get it right! ;o
It's absolute s*** and I expected it to be such. Lou Reed's never been good (the acclaim this man gets is seriously beyond me), and Metallica are more than a decade past their expiration date.

Agreed. I respect bands that stay with the style that created them, not change to adapt to a new culture just to prolong their existance. Doing that is a great big middle finger to your original fans.

Eh, the way I see it a band or artist should not adapt new styles just to adapt new styles, but neither should they stick to the same formular just for the sake of it. They should do whatever it is they're moved to do. If a band like Iron Maiden sticks to the same tried-and-true formula because that's honestly what they want to play then more power to them. By the same token if a band gets tired of doing the same thing and honestly wants to branch out then they should do so. Metallica seem to veer wildly all over the place for the sake of seeming "experiemental" (all while keeping things in a safe, easy-to-digest verse-chorus-verse format), and we've probably been cheated of at least a few good, consistent metal albums because of it. On the other hand if Ulver had stuck to the black metal they did early in their career we would have been robbed of some truely incredible music from those guys over the years.
It is laughably bad. At one point, James Hetfield calls himself a table and repeatedly insists on that fact. Lou Reed, I love you, but try to stay away from awful metal bands next time ok?majoras_wrath
Actually I'm quite sure you can blame all of those terrible lyrics on Lou Reed. Anyway I wasn't expecting anything at all so no surprises here, Lou Reed doesn't suit Metallica and vice versa so I'll just wait for their own material to be released. I will say though Jaymz's voice is sounding the better than it has for a while now.

I had more of a problem with the deadly dull metal riffing that didn't fit anything.I'm tempted to listen to this now actually...doubt it's on Spotify though (Metallica....)Ravensmash
its not even worth your time.
I streamed a couple of songs and couldnt believe they managed to top St Anger.

Ehh from just that one song I cannot make a judgement call I love metallica but it seems that one shouldn't look at it as metallica metallica but something they wanted to experiment with.
You do realize that they did this just to experiment. This isn't a Metallica record. It was Lou Reed's idea to begin with. Metallica is merely just Lou Reed's backing band.Awful just awful. I don't like it personally but I prefer to keep it to myself, unlike all of the other Metallica fans who make us all look bad.
Good...Lord, that was horrific. Shouldn't be surprised though. Metallica just continues to embarrass themselves. I wonder if they know they suck by now. They need to put out one more magical album that's actually thrash metal like the first four, blow everyone's mind, then ride off into the sunset.
None of you are artistic enough to get the song. "I am the table" That lyric is sooo deep. It is a genius lyric that only genius minds will understand. What he is saying in the line is that he is static. Tables are static. He has a static personality and doesn't change which is why the song has a dark tone. People like to use him like people use tables. We don't realize how much we need tables in our life until we are without them. This is how the character of the song feels. He feels like a table.
Too deep for us...right...whatever level of depth the song has doen't make it suck any less.None of you are artistic enough to get the song. "I am the table" That lyric is sooo deep. Metallica last great album came out in 1988 (And Justice for All. The Black Album was goodish, but everything since then has been garbage), and Lou Reed is welll....Lou Reed. This should surprise no one.
Too deep for us...right...whatever level of depth the song has doen't make it suck any less. The music on the song if just another representation of the characters inner thoughts and feelings. The music may sound bad to you but it is some of the best I have ever heard. The repetitive nature of the music shows that the character is feeling like his life is in a rut. You don't get the song because you don't drink enough Starbucks.[QUOTE="MacBoomStick"]

That would sound awful though. James doesn't have the voice for thrash metal anymore.Good...Lord, that was horrific. Shouldn't be surprised though. Metallica just continues to embarrass themselves. The song is bad, what does the content matter? Music is about sound more than anything else, if it sounds bad, it is bad.None of you are artistic enough to get the song. I went into that optimistic but man that has to be one of the worst things I've ever heard. I have no clue what they were thinking. Were they even trying to do quality music. dkdk999What's sad is I think they really are trying. I remember when St. Anger came out, they were very excited and proud of it. For whatever reason they're desperate to get as far away from what made Metallica what they are and what the fans want as possible.
