Other than thunder.
I shot a 4-guage once. It wasn't funny. I was deaf in my left ear (oddly not my right) for nearly two hours after. To this day I still have a ringing in my ear.

Probably some gun, automatic/semi-automatic shot from a distance by gangs killing each other. There is a highway close which I guess they use to do drive by's. Things are getting dicier around here.

I'm just glad we don't have many gang related shooting in the UK.
Probably a jet powered drag-car I saw about 7 years ago. I was about 10-15 meters away from it and it was insanely loud. In hindsight I wish I used ear protection.
Behemoth/Goatwhore show a year and a half ago. Stood front row without hearing protection right next to an amp stack. Couldn't hear essentially anything out of both ears for almost a full day, then it took about three to get "full" hearing back (probably irreparably damaged after that).
No regrets.
Except next metal show I attend I will buy the proper music/concert hearing protection.
in hs my my friends and i would take the bottle caps from snapple bottles and make clickers out of them by deforming the center of the cap. it would make a fun and annoying pop sound when done correctly.
in any case, on of my friends took on of those and basically cupped it over my ear with his hand and popped it so all the sound pressure was focused into my ear. it was very painful and since then my right ear and never felt quite right.
Our ears are so sensitive it's amazing how one sound can leave you deaf for life
Definitely going to be more careful!
The worse is when iPhone decides to blast music on max when you plug in headphones even though you had the volume on low. Supposedly the iPhone remembers how you like your volume well I learned not to put in headphones first before plugging in or it's going to hurt my ears.
Probably when I was at an airshow and some f-15s flew overhead as I was looking at the displays. I saw the plane shoot by and then realized "oh shit" as the boom followed.
My head hitting the kithen cupboard yesterday, hit my head that hard i was like "qhat was that noise?" Oh wait it was my head hitting the cupboard.
A few years back the Israeli air forces carried out a hit against a high-profile target in a nearby 5-stores building. The bomb was several tons in weight; it pulverized the building in its entirety. The house shook from its cores that day and that's saying something as we're known for building solid houses; we double the cement and iron that go into our concrete.
Also, in last summer's war, a similar attempt was carried out but failed. The explosion was so loud that I was disoriented for a few minutes.
Steel factory, they have vessels which are 4 story tall pots. The pot is filled with scrap metal, then liquid iron is poured on top followed by other metal ingredients. Then a giant oxygen chute is lowered into the top & starts blasting air inside to cook it all. As the oxygen chute is being lowered it sounds like a fucking jet & you have to run away because it feels like your heads going to blow up.
First time I shot a 45 acp without ear plugs or anything covering my ears. They produce a really sharp noise that causes an instant ring and noticeable loss in hearing. After several rounds you feel pain.
Oh I know. My shoulder has never been the same since. You should look up some of these big guys shooting a 4 gauge on youtube, I don't think anyone can handle it.
In my first school when I was a kid they had a fire alarm system that sounded like an air raid siren. One of the alarms was outside the classroom so during fire drills this thing was deafening.
The Space Shuttle, try to beat that.
yup I saw that take of at Cape Canaveral. We got some V.I.P tickets of this American dood when we was over there. He said he was meant to go with his family but dint have time. 1st question he asked though was we German. lol.
Me and my brother tried to blow up a pumpkin with a M80 (quarter stick of dynamite) on Halloween, thing had a defective fuse and went off in our faces. Couldn't hear right for days.
Runner up was a Queens of the Stone Age/Soundgarden concert, it was in a closed hockey arena and we were up in the rafters so the sound was bouncing around. I could feel my body vibrating and couldn't hear a damn thing walking away.
been to a bunch of metal shows and none of them came close to that one
I went to a WWE show, Monday night raw and one of the wrestler's entrance, (Neville) has pyros in it and that scared the living crap out of me.
I visited Washington DC a few months back and didn't know the Metro trains had horns. The operator ended up sounding it in a station. If you've ever been in the Washington Metro, you'll know the station architecture is quite conducive to sound. That and the fact the noise was so sudden made me jump three feet.
