Really interesting decision by him to sell it this way and I'm glad it's worked out for him. People are willing to pay money if they're certain it's going directly to the artist and he shows an effort to please his fans.
Love the guy. I ended up torrenting it cause I don't have a credit card, but I'll gladly send him my five bucks somehow... Maybe I'll bump into him on the street someday.
