seriously i dont see why mac is so liked. first of all its more expensive for less. all your paying extra for is that apple logo. now my sister has a mac and im actually posting from it right now. you say that the mac has better tools. what about photoshop, adobe audition and othe 3rd party editors. plus with a pc you can run linux and linux is where its poppin at. with a pc you can play games and will have no software issues.but a advantage that the mac has is hardwar upgrades. its so easy you just throw it out and go buy another mac. like whats with pc's opening it up going to stores......installing and intalling the drivers. :l

I don't own a mac, but one of the big pluses of owning a Mac is that they're much much MUCH less prone to viruses, spyware, etc. than a Windows PC is.

Norton detects everything as a virus or spyware...It detected Enemy Territory as adware, and never let me play it. Then, I switched to Avast...

Yeah, but a large amount of computer owners are not very tech savvy at all. For example, my mother reads pretty much any email she gets it, she subsribes to useless "joke" emails and stuff like that, and her computer has been infected numerous times. The mac would be a good solution for someone like my mom.

Anti-virus programs aren't 100% reliable you know. One virus will slip past every once in a while before you get the next update for your anti-virus.

The only way you'll get virus' is if you are on limwire and download a blatan virus (your own fault)

You are looking at porn and you download porno.exe (again, your own fault)

Someone random sends you a random file over msn and you accept it and exec to exe (again, your own fault)

First thing I do when i turn my pc on is ctrl+alt+del, close down AVG anti virus and start CS, then when i get bored i close CS and spend the rest of the day browsing the internet and on msn... AND WOW I DON'T GET ANY VIRUS'

and "zomg no spyware" - hardly a selling point to people who know anything about computers, maybe that's a selling point for my grandparents who don't have a clue about computers.

Actually, you can install linux on a mac, and OS X is built from BSD unix.

That being said, they are too expensive, don't have enough hardware customization flexibility (at least, the laptops), and generally are for noobs. :P

the iphone is a garbage pda. first of all it uses wifi to get on the net. so you need a router neer by . with better pds(which are cheaper) you also get video support and it uses 1x or EVDO to get on the net so you get connection everywhere

Mac and pcs are different just bc hardware is made so differently also. for esample you dont have a CMOS. that you have to wait through. the mac has a thing call psu witch detects hardwared a lot faster then pcs does. i have 2 macs both with os x 10.3.9 installed on them and i havent ever had any problems with them. one of them i have upgraded the ram and the hard drive. also all you have to do for macs is when you upgrad to a bigger hdd you just load the install cd and say clone. with pcs you have to install windows over again. if you switch hhdds out of one pc to a nother windows grips about it. but in macs os x boots up like its the hardware you installed it with. i own a pc repair shop and i have used windows pcs for several years. if you open up a mac and a pc they look the same. its just how they are programed makes them different.. i havnt had to do any updaets since i got os x 4 years ago and i get updates for windows every month or so. (imo) os x for macs run a lot smoother then windows.

It's not like they have some kind of super powerful virus protection. People don't make many viruses for Macs because it's not worth their time.

I run XP and OS X, and they both ask to download updates pretty regularly. If you haven't downloaded an update in four years, you should click on "System Update" under the apple menu. :D

Not quite correct - the iphone uses wifi if it's avilable; otherwise it uses EDGE for data access.

Agree. I'm a graphic designer, tech geek. All the adobe programs as well as Maya runs way more stable on Mac than on PC. OSX it's a lot more organized and pretty. I do have Windows for gaming and will never trade it.

Hmm. It seems as though everyone experiences crashes then, since I know some people say their Macs crash at times. It's the other way around for me, and a lot of other people though.

as long as you're not downloading any porn than I fail to see how people complain that windows gets a lot of viruses, like a 5 percent chance that you'll get a virus or spyware not downloading porn.

that was true about 5 years ago, but now it's completely false for high end designers since PC now gets the cutting edge hardware first, and most monkeys can be taught how to do a hardware upgrade. If you want a the top end CPU in a mac you have to buy a whole new mac. Also more and more projects are requiring custom software, and sometimes even hardware which you can only do on a "PC". The only reason designers even used Macs in the first place was because it was the only OS that supported 64-bit processing which saved countless hours in rendering. Now most are migrating back to PCs which have superior hardware, and the OS is just as good (or better in some cases) until some stupid employee downloads the "freeXXXpasswords.exe" file.

Ok, let me explain it better. You make viruses and when somebody goes to your website, they get a virus. The virus seeks out personal information like credit cards, etc. Now, how will you make more money? The virus is for window users, and of the jillions of people using windows, you get half a million. You put it on mac, what, 50 people in the world use mac? you get 50 cents the most. See my point?

I use a MAC at school, for art-based work. I had a pretty closed mind when I first started using it, but now I do find them quite easy to use and dont really have any problems with it in terms of crashing or viruses or anything like that.

Although I'd never use it for gaming.

[QUOTE="thorboy03"]I don't own a mac, but one of the big pluses of owning a Mac is that they're much much MUCH less prone to viruses, spyware, etc. than a Windows PC is.stevendiep_100

Because nobody is going to steal credit card information from something nobody self respecting would use.

You're not very convincing when arguing your point, are you? ;)

Yes, I already know that there aren't any viruses on Macs because of its small userbase. It doesn't change the fact that it's good news for us Mac users. You didn't really explain it at all before. You just insulted those who use Macs. :P

Most things cost more because of the brand. That's just the way things are in this world.

It's not because of the brand, it's because of the advertisements. If Apple never advertised the iPod, it could be a lot cheaper...
