Okay, I was looking forward to Mad Max: Fury Road because I liked the previous Mad Max films. I would have seen this regardless of reviews. Despite a good initial trailer released at Comic-Con nearly a year ago, I still expected nothing better than a so-so movie, despite as much as I wanted it to be great. I guess I just became skeptical of early teasers given past experiences. But dang am I ever so glad to have been so wrong.

Today I had a look at the RottenTomatoes page for Mad Max: Fury Road since it'll be releasing tomorrow (technically Friday but they always seem to show FRI movies on THURS for some reason), and holy shit those are some impressive first review figures, even by RottenTomatoes standards. 99% FRESH, with 87 reviews total as of writing this, 86 fresh, 1 rotten. Good to hear. While I've done well to manage my expectations thus far I'm now utterly stoked to go see this, and tomorrow can't come soon enough.

Anybody else excited to be seeing this? Or, anybody see it already and want to be among the first to share their what they thought of it?

Only downside for me is that it's releasing with a lot of 3D screens locally (I generally hate 3D). I don't have to watch 3D, there's still standard showings, but I'd like a non-3D enhanced screen/sound experience like RPX, ETX, XD, IMAX or whatever the theater chains proprietary enhanced visual/sound format is called, and all those in my area are being either used for 3D, or playing Avengers: Age of Ultron. Anyhow, sure I'll manage.

Huh. I thought the game and the movie were supposed to release on the same day. Turns out they're two separate things.

I loved all the other ones, even Thunderdome. I'll be seeing this one in the theater a few times. Sounds like it's Road Warrior on steroids.

I am seriously anticipating this movie. I mean, I was really stoked for this as soon as the batshit crazy trailers started rolling in, but I tried to remain skeptical. A great trailer does not mean a great movie, and getting one's hopes up can easily lead to being disappointed.

So while on one hand, this absolutely ridiculous level of love for the movie seems to be a very good sign, I'm trying my best to avoid even that. Just knowing that people like the movie this much is likely to raise my hype level so high that there's no way I won't get disappointed. I mean, the hype on this movie is just WAY beyond what I expected, with people calling it a masterpiece and one of the best action movies ever made.

Maybe with the movie looking pretty good it might help sell the game later on. The game is kind of looking like it's shaping up okay, hopefully Avalanche does a good job on this. Beforehand I'd of just been happy if at least the game or the movie turned out good, but I'd preferably like it that both turned out great.

Yeah, I agree it's smart to manage expectations after my previous experiences of huge disappointment for myself. In hindsight I felt I set myself up for it when I really liked the Prometheus trailer and really hyped the movie up then the movie not quite as much when I finally saw it (I'm still kind of holding judgement of this film depending on how the sequel plays out... if we still ever get one).

I tried to hold it in on this one, but then when I saw all the praise it's getting I couldn't contain myself.

It's supposed to have the longest/biggest action set-pieces and sequences ever made. VERY little CGI.

Being heralded as THE action movie of this century.

I'm at the point where I feel like I should probably avoid reading or listening to anything that anyone says about this movie until after I've seen it. I mean, they already have my money. I'm DEFINITELY seeing it on Tuesday, and I was halfway considering taking a day off work on Friday just to see it on opening day. So yeah...I really want to see this movie and I'm definitely gonna see it very soon. So I think I really should stop reading anything that anyone has to say about it. Because all I'm seeing is a VERY positive reception. And that ain't doing anything for me, considering that I've already decided 100% that the filmmakers are gonna get my money. All of this raving isn't convincing me to see the movie, but I'm a little bit worried that these reviews are gonna set my hopes WAY too high and set me up for disappointment.

Nice, hopefully it's a good edition to the original movies then. Will be refreshing to see an old series not getting butchered by a new film.

Yeah the movie looks better in my opinion too. The game is kind of meh and the hand to hand combat looks so old gen (reminds me of Sleeping Dogs.) It still looks like it could be really fun though.

I just saw it. Man does that movie kick so much ass. Going to see it again this weekend. By the way, the same actor who played the Toecutter in the original Mad Max plays the main bad guy in this one. That's pretty cool.

@MlauTheDaft: From what I heard so far, she's in the spotlight a bit more than Max. I guess I'll find out for sure tonight. This is THE summer movie I've been excited to see the most, and I've heard nothing but praise for it so far.

I liked it, don't want to oversell it though. Still formulating my thoughts on it too. Will probably wait until more people have seen it to go deeper into what worked for me, what didn't. Anyhow, until then.

I wouldn't recommend seeing it in 3D, found it kind of distracting myself. I want to see it again, properly if I get a chance, found a non-3D RPX screening nearby so maybe I'll see that.

On a good note, I hear that there may be plans for additional sequels in the works. I can imagine that being the case depending on how well this does commercially.

Well that was batshit crazy in the best possible way. Struggling to think of another action film that has a better display on a technical level. The truck scene in Terminator 2 seems laughable compared to this.

Love that the trailer only gives away the first 30 minutes. You really have no idea what you're in store for.

I was watching several reviews on YouTube and most of them were saying the 3D version is a must. So now I am torn after reading the comments here. Still, being 99% fresh, I am guessing I will not be disappointed either way when I see it later this weekend. It's good to have a movie like this which had far less hype than Avengers 2 become such a surprise hit, likely the biggest one of the summer .. . or year. People were expecting it to be good. . . but not this good.

As an Australian, and my love for cars.... that coupe that you all saw in the original films was none other than the great Ford XB GT. That fine vehicle sparked such a big outroar for the car, which was already popular before the movies were released especially amongst the youngsters of that time (not to mention people have built and own a Mad Max replica like in the movie from all across the globe, I've seen one in the States too). In Australia owning a genuine, matching numbers XB GT coupe is finer than owning gold lol (they are sold for around the 60-100k mark even with rust). Anyways, Mad Max is amazing that's all I can say and I hope you all enjoy the film and make sure to watch the original trilogy too.

@Ballroompirate: Actually, the sequels depend on how well this one does. I hope it does great, but there might be a uphill battle--pitch perfect 2 opens this weekend, as well--not to mention this is an R rated film...it might not get themail high numbers it would have if this were a PG-13 movie.

@BattleSpectre: Yeah, but you get more buts in the seats with a PG-13 rating, particularly younger film goers who wouldn't get in an R film othwrwise. I think it's gonna do fine here, but it might make the bulk of the money overseas.

@BattleSpectre: Over here, it goes from G, PG, PG-13, and R (under 17 needs a adult to take them.) I think people will get a better idea on how well it'll do overall when the Friday totals are released tomorrow. I'm just killing time until the 8:40 showing starts.

The movie is top notch in just about every way. Saw it last night and it's right up there with Kingsman as the best action movie this year. I might have to give the edge to Mad Max because it looked like 80% of the effects were practical, which is simply amazing given some of the shit that goes down. There was a lot more noticeable cgi in Kingsman. Both rock though.

Caught it in theaters last night. As someone who prefers 3D for movies intentional filmed with it in mind, I chose 2D instead of 3D, and I'm glad, because the movie only had one shot that was clearly filmed to take advantage of 3D. I could imagine this movie being a little headache inducing with 3D (movie is simply too fast paced, way too many things constantly going in and out of focus). It reminded me of a graphic novel, or adult comic book. Hell - it feels like a damn video game. It did a great job at the "show, don't tell" approach to film making. With the non-stop action, it heavily reminded me of a lot of comic book movies that have been hitting theaters, but for many reasons this is easily a tier above all of those (including The Avengers). No McGuffin's, no forced comedic moments, no battles completely made out of CGI, no cliffhangers, and if you don't focus exclusively on the action, you'll notice how well placed and subtle the story elements are. If videogame writers understood how to use subtle storytelling like this film utilized, the videogame industry would be a lot closer to making art rather than schlock. The characters, world, environment, etc. particularly were all awesomely gritty in their design.

Obviously the movie may not be the deepest, but it's incredibly well made and does well to avoid pitfalls that normally would lead me to believe a movie is incredibly overrated.
