Ding-dong-ditch is one thing, those kids were practically staging a burglary.
What ever happened to ringing the front doorbell and running away?
They should all be slapped for doing such a stupid thing. Beating up a couple of teens doesn't solve anything and just makes things worse.

I agree with this. Judging by the circumstances, the guy was rightfully freaked out, and the teens should be charged instead of him.
What did the man do wrong? And your sig always gets me. :xBoth should be punished; not punishing the teen sends a bad message to other teens.

In the end, was it worth going through the troubles of tackling down a teenager for ding-dong-ditching? At any rate, that 38 year old did the same exact thing at one point in his life as a kid, too.Nerd_Man
I know from my experience, any time ANYTHING happens in my neighborhood, the cops are never able to do anything. I've had my house broken into and two other neighbor houses all the same day (2001, 9/11 no less). One neighbor was even chasing them and TOOK A PICTURE. There was never an arrest and the cops claimed they couldn't do anything but 'they think they know who it is'.
Later, kids throw rocks and eggs at my neighbors truck, smashing the windows, plus they cut the tires. No arrest.
Currently there is someone every few months that goes through unlocked cars and take stuff. MY car is a junker and I keep nothing of value, yet the jerk still goes through my glove compartment tossing papers. Again, the cops 'think they know who it is' but don't have enough to arrest him.
I understand the victim's frustration, because you get to the point where you have to capture one as proof.
Maybe they've done that before. Just ringing and running. But later on, it just didn't give them that sick thrill that they've been hankering for, so they had to take it to the next level. It's sad, really.Ding-dong-ditch is one thing, those kids were practically staging a burglary.

He should have called the cops. If he was going to tackle one of them, he should have stayed on his property. He left his property to pursue this one teen, correct? If so, then that's where he failed. It's too bad though.Elian2530
I don't know if I fully agree. They were walking all over his yard and around the house is the impression I get. It doesn't sound like they were just walking up the walkway, pressing the doorbell and running.
If someone is walking around your house at night, he has every reason to believe they might be looking for a way in. But you are right: he should have called the police at that point before going to get one.

If so, then that's where he failed. It's too bad though.Elian2530It's ambiguous. It doesn't say he left his property, and it also doesn't explicitly state he stayed in his yard, although the article certainly seems to imply he did.

The article states the tackle was made in his yard.
The dragging back to his house while he called the police is kind of extreme. That'll probably throw a wrench in the guy's case.
But I hope it works out for him in court. If I was in his position and I thought my hypothetical family was being threatened, tackling is the least I might do.
...I hate kids.

Nope, article said the tackling took place in the man's yard.
I commend the man...but you can't physically come in contact with people under 18 in the sense he did if your his age...isn't it considered assaulting a minor or something?..
If the minor is on your property and threatening you or your family, I'm pretty sure you're allowed to dish out some violence. Not that this was the case. Just saying. Anyways, it was after 10:00 PM and it was dark, so in any case, he wouldn't be able to tell someone's age.I commend the man...but you can't physically come in contact with people under 18 in the sense he did if your his age...isn't it considered assaulting a minor or something?..

That actually sounds like a reasonable punishment for something like that. :PWhat a bunch of BS, the teens should be doing community service throughout the entire summer

i think the man was rightfully afraid in this circumstance, at first i thought they had just rung the doorbell and ran but this was taking it too far.
That's what the shotty is for. One shot into the air and they wouldn't have come back.

I agree with the shotgun but not about shooting in the air. If I'm deciding to bring out the Mossberg, I'm going to be aiming for the center mass.
