Eh, I guess you have to get used to his voice. I personally think his voice is just fine for his music, and his songs would sound weird sung by just about anyone else.LZ71
I heard a great cover of his song Death is not the end by Nick Cave. I actually thought it sounded better than the original Bob Dylan version.
Can I hear you singing?biggest_loserWell honestly I *THINK* I sound better than Bob Dylan.. I can't write songs for nuts though.
He may not have the best voice, but if you watch some live videos from his younger days, his delivery is pretty amazing.
His voice is unique, but it's not melodious if you get what I'm saying. The tune is there, but that kind of voice is kinda like for hard rock lol. th3warr1orI dunno. I mean, Dylan has just as outlandish a voice as Tom Waits, and I like both of their voices. They can be melodious, I just find Dylan's delivery to be a bit pronounced. He's more of a writer than a singer and it shows, but he doesn't have a bad voice.
Like a Rolling Stone is one of the best songs ever released. Nobody is going to confuse his voice with phil collins or someone like that, but they shouldn't. His music has always been edgy, with a grainy sound. Plus, don't even bring up anything over the lastfew decades cause he was in a motorcycleaccident that really messed him up physically. You listen to his old stuff, his voice is perfect for the melodies and songs he makes
My understanding has it, liking him is something that comes with age. An age that I have not yet hit. :P

Yeah, I like the cover of "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" performed by Them (ft Van Morrison) more than the original by Bob Dylan.

That's what seems to happen a lot. Most people prefer the cover version rather than Dylan's original, the most famous (I think) being the All Along the Watchtower cover by Hendrix :PImagine if Dylan and Wilson wrote a song together. Wouldn't that be niceI'd say Brian Wilson was a better songwriter, but Dylan wins lyrics hands down

But good lord almighty, he's the best songwriter in the history of America. Seriously. Knocking On Heaven's Door, Forever Young and stuff... when sung by other artists. Godly. th3warr1or
Cat Stevens is better.
*flame shield up
Cat Stevens has far deeper, more philosophical lyrics, is a better singer, can play more instruments, and has overcame far more hardship in his life. Who cares if he's a Muslim, he's still the best folk rock artist the galaxy has ever known.
I can't remember which bob dylan documentary it is (it's the one w/ Donavan I think), but it shows him getting interviewed by some guy who asks something about his voice. Bob replies "what's wrong w/ my voice?" and the guy says it's bad, and bob basically tears him a new one and shows the guy really doesn't know anything about signing or music for that matter.
I'll admit his voice is a bit nassally but over time I've come to like his versions better than all the covers.

"Mona Bone Jakon" is a brilliant album. I get a little wet in the eyes when I listen to it.

and then there's his magnum opus, 'Tea for the Tillerman!' I always cry when I hear 'Into White.' I honestly don't know why. Pretty much every song on Tillerman is a musical masterpiece, there's no doubt about it. No doubt about it.
A lot of famous musicians aren't good in the technical sense. Music is about more than just that. Most members of punk bands, (to pick one genre example), aren't good technically at what they do, yet create compelling, influential music. It's about the atmosphere and the message, and the feeling you get when listening to the music that matters.Engrish_MajorAnd as a serious singer, I find this to be utter cowpoo. Why is technical proficiency so unattainable? The entire point of becoming a singer is being able to belt like a frickin' beast. I'm one of those people who believes everyone has a great voice within them. It just takes some coaxing to come out. Just because you have the creativity doesn't mean you should get a free pass when it comes to actual proficiency. You could have stuck with just being a songwriter, but once you actually decide to come out and sing your own creations, I'm going to judge you by the highest and fairest musical standard.
