I'll say. Nothing horrible about having a baby girl anyways.Well that's kind of an extreme way to abort a fetus. Some husband he was.

It's kind of like calling drunken date rape a tradition in America. Just because something happens routinely, that doesn't make it a national tradition.Hahaha. I was just thinking about which english king had his wife executed for giving him only daughters.maybe he is the reincarnation of king henry the 8th?

Bitter_Altmer
In pre-Islamic Arabia, it was a very common practice to kill baby girls because they wouldn't carry the family name, etc. Islam actually abolished all of that, so anybody saying that this is a tradition in the area is misinformed.

While certain cultures do promote male children (China comes to mind), murdering your wife for being pregnant with a girl is not part of any culture. Such a culture wouldnt last more than a few years as they would run out of women.[QUOTE="F1_2004"] These people have 10 wives or some **** like that.Sky-
Who are "these people"?
I guess the palestinians. And though that can be construed as an offense,He is right. Polygamy is allowed in both gaza and the w.bank as a result of old jordanian and egyptian laws. In any case from what I remember-all muslim nations allow polygamous unions.[QUOTE="Atmanix"][QUOTE="rockerbikie"]Well you can't say it's bad without direspecting them, it's a tradition, you offend them if you say it's bad.rockerbikie

Yes it has happened in the past it's their honour traditions. India is in a differnt culture I don't expect you two to understand their culture. While this isn't about India, I get what you're saying. Criticizing the traditional values and practices of other cultures can be quite thorny; the potential of appearing chauvinistic and ethnocentrically biased is certainly something to be mindful of. On the other hand, this does not mean that we have NO right whatsoever to criticize other cultures, nor does it mean we ought to approach them from a purely relativistic perspective. Admittedly, it is pretty murky territory but I tend to draw the line at anything that involves the harm or suffering of others. Female genital mutilation is another example of a practice that I wouldn't be willing to dismiss as "just part of their culture". Again, this could be construed as just one more example of western chauvinism (and it could be arguably perceived as such) but that won't stop me from criticizing. It's debatable if morality is objective, but from the fact alone that different cultures exist, we can't imply it isn't.[QUOTE="Atmanix"][QUOTE="rockerbikie"]Well you can't say it's bad without direspecting them, it's a tradition, you offend them if you say it's bad.rockerbikie
