Pretty incredible. though I understand the science behind it, I still wouldnt do it.

Protected By ScienceMy hand is like a red-hot poker to the liquid nitrogen, but an insulating layer of nitrogen gas forms- a phenomenon known as the Leiden-frost effect- keeping my hand safe and warm for a fraction of a second.Mike Walker

I would be too chicken to try it, but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do this if you were fast enough.

I was expecting to see a picture of a hand shattered into a million pieces, but this is cool, so basically is none of the liquid nitrogen coming into contact with his skin?

I've had liquid nitrogen poured on my hand for the same effect. It's quite scary the first time. :P

every knows that trick, you can even do it with molten medal. I was hoping for an idiot who froze his hand and got destroyed.

Essentially, yes. It would after a few seconds though, hence the quick in and out.

Quite a while before it is completely frozen and is ready to break into pieces. Not very long before he gets a third degree frostbite.

I've done that before at an open day. It's luke warm, the nitrogen instantly evaporates and creates a pocket of air around your hand. It hurts if you hold the container though as it dosn't create the insulating pocket.

The nitrogen would all evaporate first. Air is an insulator so i think you may actually get too hot rather than too cold.

It also works with (really) hot molten lead as the mythbusters have demonstrated. NOTE: IF YOU HAVE YOUR HAND WET. Molten lead doesn't create a protective gas barrier lol. You need water for that.

No it wouldn't; haven't you seen the old frozen banana demonstration? You only have as much time as it takes for your hand to get cold enough such that it no longer instantly evaporates liquid nitrogen, at which point you get a hand just as frozen as the banana.

That's just reckless. Although people who perform stunts don't really care about what could happen if they screw up. We had Nitrogen in my High School vocations. Our teacher was lucky nothing bad ever happened, because we were misfits and henever paid attention to our shenanigans.

I don't think we were supposed to have it. It's good for demolitions and cooling things down but for as much as we had I think he was ripping it off. I think that's what happens in most of those vocational courses. So I'm guessing that's why we got away with it.

How is it reckless if they knew exactly what they were doing? It's no more dangerous than pouring yourself cereal for breakfast.
