It's tough to imagine, but if your parents destroyed $29,000 of something you own (or what you think is worth $29,000), deliberately... I think most people would sue. It's not something the average person can easily recover from, financially speaking. It's quite a thing to do to someone, let alone to your own child. I'm sure they thought it was the right thing to do... but this is why you don't go around destroying people's property. Even if it's your family's property. Maybe especially if it's your family's property. They could have talked about it.
Also we don't know what this porn collection is all about. But it could involve commissioned art, which can easily cost hundreds of dollars per piece. Also sex toys? XD Those can be expensive too, like I'm sure we all know.
I do think porn can be addictive and have a negative hold on people. But still... I don't think the best method of 'intervention' is to destroy someone's stuff. If you look up sites on how to deal with a son who is addicted to alcohol/drugs, the tips included usually don't mention something like "destroy his stash" for a reason.
