Oh wow thats a first
Well it is ok for a bear to kill a person for no reason, but if a person kills a bear with great reason, like self defense they jump all over him. They think people shouldn't kill animals even though animals kill each other.http://www.canada.com/theprovince/news/story.html?id=b0a0dcfc-d93e-4f8b-ac9c-e26c36eeb3e4

If I ever kill a bear, I will make it into a stuffed animal.
I mean, I'd want something to commemorate the badassery that comes with killing a living, breathing tank.
Stuff it? Pfft, I'd try and turn mine into a mechanized bear... that would be sweet. :DIf I ever kill a bear, I will make it into a stuffed animal.

exactly. good point.
Haha it says someone asked "Why didn't you run away" Imagine trying to run away from a bear.
He had to kill the bear to live geez, these animal rights activists must care more about animals then other humans, and that is very strange and wrong.
I wouldn't care if the guy killed the bear because he was looking to get a good ol dinner.
Animals are meant to be eaten, if they weren't, then they wouldn't taste so good.
Lol, and when I began to think the world made some sense. :PFallofAthens
PETA makes everyone else look smart. At least they're good at doing that.
You misheard me. I said that if Bear Grylls wants to kill you let him and offer yourself up and thank him for the chance. The fact that you are alive right now is because he lets you. You should thank him.

Frankly, I disagree with all of you. He invaded the bear's space with TWO DOGS, no less. The bear was just trying to protect her cubs. I'm not saying that killing a bear in self-defence is wrong, just that you shouldn't believe this guy's version so wholeheartedly.
And anyway, nearly everyone who posted so far expressed some sort of pleasure at the death of these 3 bears :?. I'm no supporter of PETA, but I'm absolutely shocked at the lack of sensitivity you're all showing. Frankly, it's disgusting.

The fact that he was within the bear's wittle-bitty personal space is irrelevant, especially considering that he didn't know there was a bear and her cubs nearby. The bear still attacked him and he had every right to defend himself.
The entire forest isn't off-limits to humans, you know.
What would the bear have done? "RAAAAAAAAAWR!!! Oh, you didn't know you were in my space? Sorry, my bad. Go on." No, it's going to go "RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWR!!!!" and kill the dude. >_>Frankly, I disagree with all of you. He invaded the bear's space with TWO DOGS, no less. The man was in the bears territory and the bear got scared and attacked. The man got scared and killed in self defense. There is no right or wrong here. It was a misunderstanding between a man and a bear. Leave the guy alone.

Yeah, I know, but what if his dogs really started hassling the cubs? If a dog started threatening your children, would you not take protective action? Killing a bear in self-defence is unfortunate but necessary. Provoking said bear with 2 dogs in her vicinity just isn't cool.
But whatever, what really annoys me is everyone's insensitivity. Bears are beautiful animals. There's simply no need to make fun of their death. It's a sad event.
Man, this guy is very commendable. He gets nearly mauled by a bear, is able to keep himself from dying by killing the bear. Then he gets hate male from people yet he still stays polite and civil. Damn, I would be be ready to kill one of the guys who sent me the hate mail. munu9
If I were him I would release a bear in their living room.

Ridiculous. Dude was defending himself.
However, this kind of stuff tends to happen in B.C., and maybe certain activists there are just on the edge. I still remember a story a few years ago about a woman and kids who went off a park trail into a bear den, where the kids were mauled to death by a bear and the woman barely escaped with her life...which in turn prompted the park rangers to go and kill the bear and her cubs, which in turn prompted activists to get really peeved off.
In this case though, there really wasn't much option. Black Bears, if I recall, prefer raw meat, so there's no "playing dead" with them. They're fast and still quite powerful, so it's fight it or hope that you can somehow scare it away.
This man....is....no....he can't be.....HE IS! HE IS!

Did you hear that story of the elderly man in africa fighting a leopard? Dude had a machete and was doing some gardening or whatever, and it pounced on him. Old man tosses the machete away, and rips the leopard's tongue out with his bare hands.
As much as this story is pretty epic, I don't think anyone can top that old african man.

I for one think bears are great animals as well and it's tragic that the story had to end in such unnecessary bloodshed.
However, the story would've been just as tragic if the bear killed the man and his two dogs, and by the looks of the story, there was no opportunity to run or hide in a tree (especially considering bears are pretty damn good climbers). It was either him or the bear that day, and the man had big enough cajones to not give up on life.
I doubt his dogs were harassing the cubs though, since the bear would've went after the dogs instead of the man if such were the case. This being said as well, the man is still not at fault here for antagonizing the bear since he wasn't the one potentially harassing said cubs of the mother.
Yes, it's a sad story on both ends, but that's how life is.

Nothing is wrong with being cynical. Just because I make fun doesn't mean I condone or even turn a blind eye.

You wanna bash bears' skulls in when you grow up? Good luck with that.
Why are you Americans forcing me to take the hated PETA's side on this? I wouldn't disagree but for everyone's complete indiference towards these 3 bears' lives. And you're making the yokel who killed him into some kind of hero? I'm sorry, but your attitudes towards this issue sicken me...

This is why people should learn how to find territory markings before they go searching for Moose. It would probably have prevented this.
Whoa. So if a bear attacked one of those ARA's would they try to reason with the bear or something? Christ, if a bear were to threaten my wellbeing and I saw a blunt weapon handy - the bear would get it whereever I could strike first :|KikoukenYou sound like this lady

Well, when you put it like that, I agree. I just love animals, so I took umbrage at everyone's cruel comments.
Now I'll go and mourn in peace, if you don't mind...

I do feel remorse for the cubs. I'm not saying he is hero and i'm american. Like i said it was a misunderstanding between two animals. I see the tragic side but I also see the humorous side. Thats how it works with unusual events. Like that woman who was killed by a shaft of frozen urine that fell from an airplane I see the tragedy in it but being killed by urine is kinda funny.
anyone who would put another animals life over a humans life should go do some good and feed him/herself to a lion.Guybrush_3
Depends on what said humans are doing.
For instance, people sport hunting lions with high powered rifles in Africa? If they get mauled by one, then good for the lion. Serves the people right for not respecting the animals they're hunting.
If there's a burning house and I have one opportunity to save a life and it's either a pet cat or the owner of the house, i'm saving the person.
