When I heard the song Battle of Evermore by Led Zeppelin, it made me want to get a mandolin. I'm most likely getting a mandolin next week, because its my birthday.

Anyway, do any of you know any good mandolin songs? Or is it pretty much a top of the shelf instrument?

I play the mandolin just a little bit and I very much enjoy the instrument. As someone mentioned, Chris Thile is great and I enjoy some of his stuff in the group Punch Brothers. Most of what I have done playing has been finding an old hymn book and playing its songs from the music sheets. However, I do not expect that many would want to go that same route.

Some of the masters like Bill Monroe and Ricky Skaggs. Here is a video of Ricky Skaggs, his band Kentucky Thunder and the Boston Pops orchestra.

You get used to it. Now I think guitar frets are too big. And I can hardly play bass anymore.
