So, should marijuana be legal or illegal? I kinda lean both ways. It would bring in tons of tax money/take lowly drug dealers out of jails that are overcrowded, but then no one would get anything done and be overweight from munchin'...

Yes, absolutely legal. As for no one getting anything done. There's people who already do that. Generalizing doesn't work all the time.

Yes it should be legal. Our country is already full of fat lazy people, look around. Marijuana has never stopped anyone from doing anything.

I just don't understand how it would be sold... Like would their be shops or what? And the problem is that people will still buy it from other sources to avoid paying the tax on it, they will get the same stuff for the same price, why would they pay more?

Absolutely legal. There is no reason why anyone should be made a criminal for smoking weed that is unless they are driving....

Oh noes.......I thought Mary was dead by now? :? I think it's only a matter of a little pushing and shoving before it becomes legal, though. However it will probably be a while.

Marijuana turns people into trash. They become addicts who need to light up and they get cranky when they can't smoke their weed. It provides a euphoric feeling, yes, but it also makes you stupid. It kills your brain cells, you make a fool of yourself, and one of the worst side effects, you rapidly gain weight. I was stoned once, and the euphoria was there, but to me it was not worth it because I like to be in control of myself, not put my faith in some burning plant. The drug made me stupid, very funny, very cute I suppose, but lowered my mental speed and just turned me into a burnout 45-minute junky. I walked to a convenience store soon after that and bought and ate 6 rolls, like donut-type rolls, and I also ate a large bowl of oatmeal and raisins, and I also ate a can of pineapple because I was very hungry. The 'high' subsided and my gut ached from thee copious amount of food inside of it. I ached from all the food I had eaten when before I had been 'so darn hungry.' To make a long story short, I realized that this drug wasn't me. I didn't want to become a loser, a loadie, or a fat kid. I wanted control of my own brain back and I didn't want to fork it over to some 'hunk of mistletoe.' No, this drug is destructive, it destroys a person's mind, it destroys their body, and also importantly, it destroys their ego. I cannot support the legalization of such a thing that knowingly causes so much damage.

what about "I know this girl that my friend's cousin's ex lover's brother likes and I want your opinion" threads? I think those are right up there with religious threads.

You think because you tried it once that you know everything there is to know. It doesn't kill brain cells. It is not addictive. Its as addictive as world of warcraft, guess we should ban that too. It doesn't destroy their body either. Hears an idea! Eat something healthy instead of donuts. Look at the amount of food we are supposed to eat in a day. You don't have to pig out on fattening foods. Go ahead and call yourself stupid while youre high, some people like to not be themselves for awhile, thats why drinking is so popular, and that should be their choice. If you feel as if you have no control of yourself while on it then thats sad. You may be slower but you should still have control of yourself. I can't believe you would post so much crap. buh buh buh SOOOO much damage. Let the people decide whats in their bodies instead of having people like you as a baby sitter.

considering we supposedly live in a free society, and no crime has come from people getting high, it should obviously be legalized.

Haha this is hilarious. Addicting? Hardly, it is not physically addicting (your body doesnt go through withdraws without it), but it can be mentally addicting like pretty much anything. Destroys brain cells? no. Gain weight? Not really, unless you really cannot control what you eat. You do not completely lose control of yourself, i think what you are describing here is alcohol, which is way more harmful of a drug than weed, yet is legal.

I don't think it would bring in that much tax money. If it was taxed a lot folks would just buy it illegally.

You remind me of the overprotective mother who says her son smoked "a whole pack of marijuana cigarettes" haha But yeah, your points aren't even valid.

This. Thats your *skewed* opinion, but guess what when I drank alcohol one time i ate loads of food, had a stomach ache, i wasn't myself, it made me trash, i got cranky without it, it killed my brain cells... so it should be illegal right, i mean I don't personally like being drunk so that means it should be illegal. Seriously though, that's you and that's up to you, if you don't like the feeling of being high that doesn't mean it should be illegal... its your choice, whether it should be legal or not has nothing to do with whether or not you personally enjoy being high.

Legalize it and make it an industry. We accept the "yeah, we're killing you but hey, gotta go sometime, right?" mockery of ciggarettes and booze, but we draw the line at Marijuana? Study it, make sure we know all the side effects, and sell and tax it. This will probably never happen, but i think its glaringly hypocritical and stupid that i can buy something in a store that says on the package it will most like give me at least two of the worst cancers, and chase that with something that can cause me to not only kill myself and probably others if drink a bottle of it and try to drive myself home.

Sorry, but my friends experiences differ from yours. When my brother tried to give up weed he experienced panic attacks, heart palputations, vivid nightmares and severe paranoia and my other friends all experienced one of the above as well. Also, my brother's short-term memory is very bad now so that's proof that weed can damage the brain (he smoked it for 5 years).

In 2007 my housemate developed schitzophrenia because he smoked weed too much. He thought he was God and the Devil in the same person and that Jimi Hendrix was his spirit guide. I found him standing on the street giving all his money to strangers and eventually had to section him because he was threatening to kill himself. Hebroke out and came back aday or so later asking everyonehe knew if they could get him some weed and said they shouldn't like to him because he had 'powers'. He also called me his Judas.

Despite all of this I'm actually for legalizing it. It would mean the stuff would come from purer sources, making it a lot safer for general use. But please, don't say weed doesn't damage people because it can. Just like any other drug.

Automatic fail, Marijuana is not addictive :) ... As for the rest of your post... personal experiences don't count for the majority.Generalizations are never good either ;)

Cigarettes are way more harmful than marijuana though.

considering we supposedly live in a free society, and no crime has come from people getting high, it should obviously be legalized.

Releasing carsenogenics into a public commidity; e.g. air, which can lead to the possibility of impairment of others beyond their will is indeed against the foundation of our very society.

Practically harmless doesn't translate to uterrly devoid of any kind of impairement on an unwilling individual. Your freedom to run around swinging your fist ends where my nose begins.

I just don't understand how it would be sold... Like would their be shops or what? And the problem is that people will still buy it from other sources to avoid paying the tax on it, they will get the same stuff for the same price, why would they pay more?Magna_Man109
In California, the plan is to sell in dispensaries like the coffeeshops in Amsterdam. They also want to drastically reduce costs, so that even with the tax people will buy legally instead of off the streets.

People don't normally run around swinging their fists, and cannabis smokers do not run around blowing smoke in peoples faces, enlightenment only occurs after inhaling. Regardless, cannabis smoke does not cause lung cancer or emphysema.

And how would swinging ones fists at someones nose have any relation to smoking marijuana?

The mere product of smoking marijuana produces something which invades a public commodity of which I take part in. As such, any minute affect that it may have, no matter how trivial, if it is against my will it is against the law.
