I thought it was a good interview and he made pretty good points.

"I don't disagree with alot of the ideals he (Jesus) was trying to get across. I just don't like how people have used them to exploit others and make children feel guilty for having imagination and wanting to be individuals"

"If you follow anything soley thats as stupid as listening to everything I have to say"

"I think that church has very little to do with spirituality. I think its something you have to find in yourself. Its about expressing your deepest fears and your emotions and putting it in something. Its not about living in fear and praying and hoping your not going to go to hell. Thats not very spiritual to me."

So why is everyone so obsessed with him this week? I agree he makes many good points, he should be a public speaker once he retires from music.

Manson, love him or hate him, was intelligent. Shame he is now a terrible addict who really has nothing left to say. He has turned his mind to **** now he drinks absinthe near constantly and uses harder drugs habitually. Now he doesn't make any of the clever points he used to, both in music and interviews. He is just a parody of himself these days.

Shame.

Which is why the critics loved Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals and Holywood. Right  There is more to the man than just his shock value. The image he tries to convey is very methodical and changes constantly. Look and the symbolism in his music and the way he dresses. He wore those prosthetic breasts for a reason. It wasn't just to shock people. (even though it did the job) People don't seem to understand why he's even called Marilyn Manson. Even the name has minor sybolism. Examine the themes present in his work and then come back. He is some of the finest alternative metal out there.

He's not just about the shock value.

Holywood was where he fell off. It was too hit and miss.

Portrait of an American Family, Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals were all good to very good albums.

Although I have listened to them every so often and feel a little silly doing so these days,

He is no more worse off talent wise now adays then Trent. Whats wrong with HolyWood? It had all the depth and style of his previous two albums and was the conclusion to his three album storyline the Triptych.

In my opinon it all went downhill with Eat Me Drink Me. Manson had alienated to many of his band members and his addictions were begining to take effect.

Yeah. To tell you the truth Marilyn Manson, and Nine Inch Nails along with more obscure bands like Jack Off Jill are really like sister bands to one another because of how interconnected they were in terms of collaberation and production.

That doesn't really mean you have to like all three if you like one of those bands. NIN has been consistently good, whereas Marilyn Manson died a young death. No idea about the other band you mentioned.

LJS9502_basic

I will always hold Portrait with relatively high regard. I liked it musically and lyrically, the image was just an image, rather than it bleeding into the music. Plus, killer production.

Antichrist Superstar... is my least favorite of the (what I think are) decent Manson albums, it is in places a little silly in its concept. But there are some songs on it I really like, but also some that I don't, plus, Trent's production (and a wee bit of musicianship) makes it automatically be in my good books.

Mechanical Animals, for the most part was just a good listen. Some songs were very stupid lyrically, but still just a good bit of fun I guess.

Had he put out say, 11 song albums they would have been musically better than they are, kick off the filler. The other problem was that the image bled too far into the band, making the band the image, rather than the music... if that makes sense. It was almost as if, the spur of the moment shocks that came early on, or more the gimmick, became forced, and now that he is doing it and he is 40 it is just plain sad. With one "shocking" thing after another it just appears to be a desperate attempt to stay in the public eye. An occasional thing, fine, but I suppose the band became built up on that reputation and it swallowed them whole. Then the band became that reputation and relied on it rather than producing anything of substance.

That's the way I see it at least. Again, I can't really listen to his music any more, I just feel rather silly doing so, it is somewhat juvenile, of course, it is important to be aware, even in my mouth my interest in Manson only existed because of my interest in Trent, hence, post Trent (aside from MA) I sever all interest, I have checked out his work since then, and it has been pretty crappy...

Killer production on the first 3 albums though :p

Even if you do not like the sound you cannot deny the objective talent in some of Manson's earlier work. Nine Inch Nails is no better than Marilyn Manson. The Downward Spiral & Antichrist superstar are some of the finest rock/industrial albums of the 90's

Manson didn't die. NIN has had its fair share of suck as well. Eat Me Drink Me Sucked though. The main problem with Marilyn Manson is the fact that the band couldn't keep its lineup toghether.

Yes but I don't find Manson's music to really stand up to what the rest of the music world offers. It's on the low end with his image and shock creating the buzz. You know what shock does....if you don't just look at what Madonna does when she fades. Unfortunately it works. As for production....Trent can only produce what is given him....doesn't make the underlying music worth a listen.

Back in the day I liked all of those bands, mainly due to my idolisation of Trent. Difference is, Trent knew when to grow up, and keep his music both interesting and relevant.

In terms of talent and consistancy, he has actually kept it up. Rather than being a one trick pony. He evolved away from those groups after The Downward Spiral, he started something, and moved on. This kept his music fresh.

As a musician and lyricist he is also more talented than the others, hence he basically created that sound that became oh-so-popular. (yes he took influence, and I'm not saying he invented industrial rock or whatever you want to call his music by any means, I am saying he put it into a format and structure that was somewhat more accessible than before, thus popularising it).

What the hell is wrong with the lyrics? They have some of the finest wordplay out there. When people talk about Mansons image the often don't understand that Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals and HolyWood are all CONCEPT ALBUMS. Manson is playing a character in those three. Notice that after the Golden Age Of Grotesque Manson focused less on shock rock.

If those albums suck than so does The Downward Spiral and The Fragile.

Manson didn't die. NIN has had its fair share of suck as well. Eat Me Drink Me Sucked though. The main problem with Marilyn Manson is the fact that the band couldn't keep its lineup toghether. IndigoSunrise

Unless we are talking "The Purest Feeling" and "Kinda I want to" this is wrong.

And Golden Age is ****

Trent took Marilyn Manson under his wing. He must have liked their sound.

I'm fully aware of the trilogy of concept albums. I lived through it. He was indeed playing "a character" but he inevitably become that character, he became a parody of himself. Golden Age, was still all the shock bollocks he was doing, just it wasn't so shocking any more, so nobody really cared.

I liked those early albums... but still, as much as I hold anything Trent says in high regard, he does like some crap music. Unless you have heard every band that was on Nothing then saying that is meaningless, because some of them were appalling.

Golden Age was about the swing era and Manson was comparing it to today. Don't even get me started. Tim Skold gave the album a great electronic sound and songs like Noir, Doll Dagga Buzz Buzz Ziggity Zagg was awesome.

Image over sound.

Doll-Dagga-Buzz-Buzz-Ziggidy-Zagg or whatever it was called was a terrible song. Along with some other shockingly bad songs.

Again, for shock during that period see the (S)aint video.

Image over substance.

No but he really liked Manson. They were almost sister acts and you cannot deny that.

The sound was uninteresting for the most part. The concept, was more than the music. It eclipsed it, and the lyricism was just plain bad.
