Just saw the intro to a Bones episode where a couple got married above a canyon, in an air-balloon, and bungee-jumped from the basket - it got me thinking.

How would you like to get married?

Personally, I'd like a small ceremony where my husband-to-be and I ride up to the altar, him preferably dressed in a suit of armour or a kilt.

Please, no "I'm not going to get married". This is all ideas or dreams or hypothetical thinking.

I got married exactly the way I wanted, in a secluded woodland with only family and close friends. Booze, cigars, and cabin hot tubs for all!

In my dream world, it would have been atop my family's (yet-to-be-reclaimed) ancestral castle in Austria.

I'd would like to have gotten married outside in the fall, surrounded by orange/yellow/red trees. I settled for the patio area of the Hyatt my wife used to work at. It was still very pretty and it allowed us to keep the actual ceremony small.

As cheap as possible, on my Parents farm or at a beach, small gathering of friends and family that can make it, everyone brings a plate of food and some booze, have a bbq and generally party the night away.

My fiance has other plans though, she wants the whole church thing, realistically I'd rather use that money to put a deposit on a house.

Both sounds pretty awesome - if I had been your wife, I wouldn't complain

Why any woman would want a huge, huge wedding is beyond me. Putting the cash into a house is much smarter..

Your future husband will be happy to hear this. We tried to make our wedding as inexpensive as possible and it still came to about $10,000. Things like flowers and food are the most expensive part, and you only get to enjoy them for one day.

I know a couple who spent $200,000 on their wedding, and they are by no means rich.

I think I just died a little. So much money, blown off on a single party. I could understand if it was something very HUGE and incredible, that lasted over a week, but a single-day party.. Do not want.

I'd like it to be either up in the rocky mountains, or on a beach somewhere.

I'd like an outdoor wedding, nothing fancy, nothing fancy.

Though as a kid my idea was the traditional tuxedo & dress wedding in a church, at this point I really think it would depend on the kind of girl I get married to. If I get married to a martial artist, then at the very least I'm gonna try and have that sword on my hip, maybe samurai armor w/o the helmet if I have the cash by then. Can't be a huge thing though; my sister did that and I saw just how much of a perpetual migraine it is. 5 months later it's still stressful on everyone's well-being and bank accounts. I think I may like an outdoor wedding in the fall, as a summer wedding outside would have me looking like I spent hours working out. There's a place I used to drive by that was right next to a mountain river with a gathering area that was used for weddings at times, though I think it went out of business. In the end it's just going to depend on her though... is she super-traditional, or does she want to do something unique? Just not big, please, not big. :(

Nope. I don't believe in marriage. My girlfriend and I can live perfectly happy together for the rest of our lives fully committed to our relationship; faithful to each other; and aware of the absolute importance of open, understanding communication to keep things going smoothly; without any contracts or ceremonies, and without asking anyone's permission (not even God's) to make the relationship "official". It was always official and dead serious.

We just had our 5 year anniversary yesterday, and both of us are still adamant about not getting married. :)

I'm not religious at all, but I just feel that marriage is a nice way of saying to my loved one that I'm committed to them forever, as well as proving it to my family that I love my partner. And grats on the 5 years :D

I know it is not what you wanted...but I don't want to get married. I am not the marrying kind. As a result, I have never put any thought into what my 'dream' wedding would be...all my thoughts have been on how to avoid such a predicament in the first place.

That's the thing, though... I don't need to prove anything to her anymore; I already did. And why would you need a special ceremony to make the commitment "official"? If you're really serious about the relationship, then you would have been committed from the get-go, not like "Ok honey, I wasn't really sure about the whole loving you thing before, but starting today I really, really love you, tee-hee! ^_^".

And as for proof to my family, I don't need to prove anything to anyone; I know I love her and that's all that matters. It's none of anyone else's bussiness how I choose to express that love.

At least that's how I see it. Sorry if I came off too agressive. :P

And thanks! It's been the best 5 years of my life. :)

Isn't marriage derived from a French word meaning prison? Or was it Italian? :P

My "dream wedding"? Bride, bridesmaids and female guests wear silky, laced lingerie. No fat chicks or anyone over 35 allowed.

There is a mountain behind the house I grew up at.

I'd love to get married there.(although not to my brother or the family dog pictured beside me.:P) It would be a little windy, so maybe it is a terrible idea. Even if that never happened, I'd still want a small ceremony. There are maybe 20 or 30 people that I'd want to come for my side. This is all moot because...

If I am super rich, Disneyworld. If not, I hope to find someone who is REALLY INTO anime, cosplaying, and RPGs. If I do find someone like that... I totally want to have a cosplay wedding, not sure on the theme for my future spouse and I, though. I have no interest in marriage, but for the sake of the scenario, I'd like a very small ceremony with only very close family and friends. I'd prefer it to be outside in the autumn. I wouldn't want it to be extravagant in any way.

I'd be interested in a civil ceremony (seeing the justice of the peace) and a small gathering of family and friends for a party. My girlfriend wants a more elaborate celebration, but that's a ways off anyways. Hopefully we can come to a comprimise that satisfies us both... because I'm not privy to spending exorbitant amounts of money on a single day, where most of it is invested in things that have no real lasting value besides "memories" which I can get for free anyways.

I'm mostly interested in marriage as a means of protecting any future children we might have... as I'm already fully in love with her, and fully committed to her. I don't need a piece of paper to tell me that.
