ok, first of all, im not asking for the answer, i'd like to actually know how to do it, so please explain how you got the answer.

here is the problem:  Darren is selling tickets for teh school play. Regular tickets are $4.00 each and student tickets are $3.00 each. darren sells a total of 190 tickets and collects $650. How many of each kind of ticket did he sell?

and if you could, please do this ASAP. im really, really tired.

x + y = 190

4x + 3y = 650

x = Regular Tickets

y = Student Tickets

That's all I'm saying...zakkro

i already have that part hahaha

thats just an easy conversion, i just dont know how to work that out. either way, thank you for at least trying to help, but is there anyone who can push me just a little bit further?

To take this a step further... isolate X or Y in the first equation... then substitute it into the other to find one value... then plug it into the first equation to get the other...

Yes, then plug it into 4x + 3y = 650

The other equation is $4X x $3Y = $650 and you isolated it right... now... plug in 190-X in for Y in the $4X x $3Y = $650 equation... ;)

*sighs* thses are the two substitution equations:

y= 190 - x
x= 190 - y

substitute for the equation:

4x + 3y = 650

the two equations:

4x + 3(190 - x) = 650

4(190 - y) + 3y = 650

just making sure im doing this right now:

i have 4x+3(190-x)=650, then i distribute the 3 and get 4x+270-3x=650. and then i combine the 4 and 3 x to get x+270=650, then i subtract 270 from 650 to get 380 and then plug in the x acordingly.

sorry if i screwed up, math, if you cant tell, is not my strong point.
