Never played the game, never seen the movie. Don't plan to do either.k_smooveYou've played Super Paper Mario, but you haven't played Max Payne?
I'd go play Max Payne as soon as possible.
Movies based on games are an almost immediate fail. I really didn't expect anything different from this.Bigg_BoiWhile this is definitely true, it never hurts to hope that a select few will break the stereotype. Resident Evil wasn't all bad and DOOM was OK even if it had almost nothing to do with the video game.
So Valkyr was their way of justifying the "bullet time" effect? Why not just use the effect and call it cinematography? Ugh...foxhound_foxBecause fantasy films need to be logical.
So Valkyr was their way of justifying the "bullet time" effect? Why not just use the effect and call it cinematography? Ugh...foxhound_foxI honestly couldn't tell. There were only a couple of slow down points in the movie. The Valkyr drug just made people freak out and see killer bird people and flaming snow.

*Sigh* I was kinda hoping it's gonna be good, sinse if it was good, that would increase the chances of Max Payne 3 being made... But deep inside I knew it would fail. All games-to-movies transitions fail.... As for MP3... *Sigh*
Never played the game, never seen the movie. Don't plan to do either.k_smooveMP the game is hard. You should go play it ASAP.
The MP movie, BB is the main badguy and you kill him. No Nichole Horn but BB.
What did they do to Max Payne?TheXboxgamer73
Do yourself a favor and put your $9 movie ticket toward a copy of the game. TheXboxgamer73
You can't buy a game with a movie ticket....:?
[QUOTE="XanderKage"]What were you smoking?*Sigh* I was kinda hoping it's gonna be good

I know, I know, just lay off. But I REALLY REALLY liked the games (especially the first one....) Sigh...

Haha. If it was possible though, I would clearly bring my movie ticket to the nearest GameStop.I've never played the game but I actually throughly enjoyed the movie, maybe because I didn't even know it existed until 5 minutes before I saw so I had no expectations like most people who saw it.Big_player
That's probably why you liked it. It maybe good on it's own, but compared to the greatness of the game...
Hallucinogenic drugs that make people see monsters? When was that in the game?
Damn drugs seemed to have ruined the movie. Just like my life. See kids, don't do drugs!!!!

Play the game again, pay specific attention when someone says "Valkyrie" or just "V".
It was never in the game. Max Payne had nightmare and dream sequences where crazy things were going on, but there were never drugs that made people see crazy bird people attacking. I'm fairly sure Jim Bravura was a detective, not a rapper named Ludacris either.Hallucinogenic drugs that make people see monsters? When was that in the game?

I meant the whole monsters thing...
But I only played a part of the first game so I'm sure I missed something...I sure as hell know MP2 had none of that except crazy dreams.

Yeah, in the first game, before the second nightmare Nicole Horne injects him with a V od. Plus before the first nightmare he's drugged by Mona with what I'm almost certain is V.
Video games are alot like comic books.. They are misunderstood and not taken seriously.. The majority of comic book movies were awful for the longest of times.. Most saw that it didn't havea good enough story to have any real worth in a movie.. That it isn't "art".. Video games will one day be seen successful when they are actually taken seriously with high production values, talented writers and directors.. With a producer who knows what to do.. Like comic books they got better and better over time when they became actual works to make a good movie, instead of a money run.. It is clear Max Payne was exactly that.. When you see actors like Marky mark refuse to play Max Payne the game, the very thing the movie is based off where he PLAYS the character, and the director is complaining about ratings of all things!
To me this just looked like another PoS video game movie and cash run, sorta like AvP but it at least had one known actor.

For instance, "fantasy" and "logic" are near-contradictory (I say "near" so that I'm never wrong), therefore my statement was a joke.
I noticed that the movie barely had anything to do with the mafia, even though the game pretty much had you kill hordes of them. At the same time, movie went along really fast, one moment he's beating up drug addicts in subway bathrooms, then the next moment he's being given that cliched evil guy monologue (where instead of killing the good guy, he ties him up and tell him his whole evil plan, but then fails to kill the good guy). As well, I never really knew where mona fit in all of this, she to me doesn't really do much other then know Max Paynes every movement.
I have a review in my blog. I didnt find it to be horrible, but it could have been much better, it feel short on so many levels, and Mila Kunis character was absolutly useless.SaintLeonidas

Not to spoiler anything but she did nothing in the film, completely useless, she had little dialogue, like 10 minutes screen time and didnt effect the story.
I am not sure if this one has passed through OT Discussion recently, but to those who have not seen the Max Payne movie, find a better way to spend your night. As a movie based on a game, it is horrible. As a movie by itself, it is horrible. I can't count the number of times I wanted to walk out of the theater in sheer disappointment. I have loved and beaten both games numerous times, and with the exception of names and a bit of story, the movie pretty much creates its own downward spiral of a viewing experience. CHARACTERS: Mark Wahlberg does a pretty good Max Payne. Hes tough, gritty, reserved, and pretty much a run of the mill badass. I have nothing against Ludacris, but as Jim Bravura, his character is a joke. In the game, Mona Sax was very independent and usually charged into the fire head on with Payne following behind. In the movie, Sax is a bit too mellow, and with the exception of 1 or 2 action scenes, she really takes too much of a backseat role considering how important of a person she is to Max in the game. STORY: Max Payne loosely follows the plot of what I think is mostly the first game. Max is on the hunt for the man who killed his wife and child, and along the way, he finds connections between her murder and a drug coined "V". In the movie, the drug is the result of failed military super soldier experiments fallen into the wrong hands. Those who take it gain ridiculous amounts of focus, strength, and momentum..... with an extreme side effect of seeing large bird/angel people and fire in the sky...yea... I said it. Where the game focused more or less on a gritty story of the New York American dream gone wrong, the movie focus's more on a murder mystery and lots of hallucinogenic drugs that gets goofier and goofier as time goes on. OVERALL: I could go on and on about how much I disliked this movie, but in truth, its only hurting me more to think about it. The crazy angel/bird plot completely drags down what is already a completely mediocre detective story lacking in "bullet time" action sequences and well.... action sequences in general. You can see where someone was beginning to piece together a perfect re-creation of the game but somehow fell off the deep end and failed miserably. Do yourself a favor and put your $9 movie ticket toward a copy of the game. It'll be more enjoyable and will last far longer.TheXboxgamer73
I figured as much. Marky Mark is a pathetic actor!

you're an idiot. i enjoyed the movie, it was a generic action flick and thats exactly what i was expecting when i went into the cinema. if you'd done any research whatsoever or watched the trailers you'd know it was a typical hollywood action style movie. end of story. also, you're complaining about it not following the story of the game yet you say 'as a movie based on a game, it is horrible' ...you make little to no sense.
