I'm assuming this also applies to Canada?
FrostyPhantasm
I would seriously suggest you ask about them. I'm glad I never bought one.

Good idea. Especially any of your friends that have small children in the house.
Took the words right out of my mouth.(I did like the first Shrek though, but it should have ended there)Good thing I don't like McDonalds and Shrek.
muller39
The first Shrek was my favourite, the 2nd film was good as well. But the thrid film totally went down hill.
Man that's a terrible screw up. :? The worst thing is that they're clearly aimed at kids, making them all the more dangerous. Ninja-Hippo
I totally agree. I hope we won't see any stories of kids with cadmium poisoning.:?
I'm not a business major or anything and a %100 supporter of total capitalism, but I'm pretty sure hurting your customers like this isn't good for business. :P Then again, tobacco companies get away with it.Nerkcon
Mcdonalds is a large company, people could die and this likely would barely affect their bottom line.
I'd like to know how/why this happened. This should really be looked into if it was an accident or mcdonalds own carelessness.
Good thing i never go to McDonalds..
Xx_Hopeless_xX
Therein lies the problem as well - you can buy the glasses without a food order. A family might not like to go there, but their kids might still want those glasses.

Kid(s): "Mom, we just saw Shrek glasses on TV!"
Mom: "We don't eat McDonald's."
Kid(s): "We wanna glasses! We want Shrek, mommy!"
Mom: *heavy sigh* "Let's go, kids, get in the car."

Oh i see...
The glasses cant be anymore poisonous than the movies they represent. How this garbage series ever got so popular i have no idea.
O CRAPPP!!!!
*Spits whiskey drank out of newly acquired shrek glasses*
kidsmelly
Drinking whiskey from a kids' movie glass? For shame!:P:lol:
Cadmium tainted glasses are still healthier for you than the 'food' McDonalds sells you.
Domobomb
Kind of a silly jab. Food, no matter how bad mcdonalds may be, does have benefits to the body. I don't know what, if any, benefits cadmium has.

I'd risk the cadmium before unleashing a nuclear sodium bomb on my body. But that's just me.

Cadmium poisoning is a slow, painful death, as is any heavy metal. *shudders*
"long-term exposure to cadmium can cause adverse health effects." Cadmium is a known carcinogen that research shows also can cause bone softening and severe kidney problems."
Scary. It sounds like the amount is extremely low though.
"Wolfson said the glasses have "far less cadmium than the children's metal jewelry that CPSC has previously recalled."
"We believe the Shrek glassware is safe for consumer use," Whitman said. "However, again to ensure that our customers receive safe products from us, we made the decision to stop selling them and voluntarily recall these products effective immediately."
Is this kind of like the BPA scare with bottles? I remember Playtex releasing a similar statement when people were going nuts about that.
Not sure what Cadmium is but glad I don't have the glasses.
Pirate700
It's a metal, chemically similar to zinc and mercury.:)
Oh, and it's part of a NiCad battery (nickel-cadmium).

Only over long term exposure with higher concentrations than what's likely found in these glasses. Besides, I do think McDonalds will put you in grave a lot sooner than Cd, with a lot more health problems too.
Fortunately cadmium is absorbed much less through the stomach than through the lungs (cadmium is common in cigarettes)... but the effects can be pretty bad. I find it interesting how "quality control" has become a thing of the past.
Come to think of it, it is odd that they started selling poisonous glasses while releasing a gay friendly commercials in France. Trying to invite more gays to the restaurant. Im not saying McDonalds is trying to do anything but It seems mightyyyy suspicious.
