Most of the people on this board are extremely depressing. Really though, thats to be expected. Anyway, the meaning of life is what you decide to be. I realized your sig..........if your Christian (like me) then your meaning in life is to be Jesus-like, to live well, benefit all those around you, and simply, live happily and properly (as in, no sin, or at least attempt).
The idea that we live to die is dangerous. The idea that we live because we are here, and we must live for the moment, is also dangerous. If you are not religious, then you must make meaning in your life. Do so quickly; no meaning will lead to conflicting feelings, depression, etc. Even if someone is happy simply living in the moment, there comes a time when mankind must look beyond his own station in life. So meaning must be added to life when you have no meaning to live by. That is why I don't like these posts; there is a almost general conclusion that we live because we exist. Thats dangerous, because once you believe there is no meaning in life, then depression, death, or even carelessness, laziness, failure, are all at your disposal.
By one thing to say to all the posters before me: life with meaning, don't let life be your meaning to live

I don't understand your conclusion. For me, the key is that life just is. I believe there is no meaning behind why we exist, we simply just are. For me, this is an absolute treasure. I feel this lifetime is the only period of time I will ever exist, thusly I treasure every last second and appreciate to no end the fact that I get to exist. I don't understand how you can possibly view living for the moment as a negative. I adore the time I have and look forward to every last second I get. This doesn't mean I treat life like a party, and go skydiving every day or something, I'm simply just highly positive about life in general.
I do not condemn it as I call it meaningless, I'm just saying I don't think it has an inherent purpose. Though while I'm in it, regardless of how less I understand it and just how shortly I will exist, I'll certainly cherish the simple fact that I get to exist, it's the greatest gift barely anyone appreciates.
I will agree though that I find anyone who says death is the purpose of life to be quite sad.
