MEGAUPLOAD OFFICIALLY shutdown by Federal Prosecutors

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/story/2012-01-19/megaupload-feds-shutdown/52678528/1

Reposted seems how the mods are too lazy to move the topic and just locked it. Maybe they have some Feds working for them?

What people need to know is that this has nothing to do with SOPA.

This link has everything you need to know. They were indicted by a grand jury in preparation for a trial and enough evidence was brought forth to shut down the website until they are proven innocent or guilty.

SOPA would basically allow the federal government to shut down websites without presenting any evidence. That's why it's bad. They can shut down whatever they want under the bill. No evidence, no jury, no trial, no investigation, no justice system of any kind.

If you would read that link you would realize that megaupload has been under investigation for a long time and evidence has been brought forth, enough to take action. Of course everybody is trying to spin it as an attack on the internet.

BTW we don't work for the federal government. That accusation is pointless. You posted it in System Wars, this has nothing to do with System Wars and we don't move threads.

I hate misinformation. Anonymous made it worse with their attack. They are trying to make it look like a SOPA thing when it's not.

SOPA is a bad bill that needs to be fought. However this is a case where people's rights aren't being infringed and the accusers are bringing evidence to a court of law thus using the legal system. There is a huge difference.

Regardless if this has anything to do with SOPA or not, it's a sign of how things would be if the SOPA bill was passed, MEGAUPLOAD content takes up like 4% of the internet...that's huge...it's also based in Hong Kong, American world police anyone?...if SOPA was to be passed, which it probably will quietly a few months from now, then gamespot would be just as screwed.

Actually they had servers in the USA which would put them under United State's Law.

This isn't a preview of what to come. If you would what I've been saying. They've been under investigation for over a year now and evidence was brought forth, enough for them to shut them down while pending further trials.

SOPA would completely bypass the investigation and justice system.
