I'm in dire need of some melodic music asap. I prefer 'atmospheric' stuff, instead of fast paced-thrashing or metal..even though I realize most here seem like metal heads :)

Couple bands I like that I'm looking for similar sounding: Thursday, Hopesfall, Inhale Exhale..maybe an easier sounding version of Poison the Well..

Instrumental bands = good , as long as they are close to Russian Circles :) Don't really care for stuff like Pelican or The F'ing Champs.

Few examples: Very Good-Pretty Good-Good - Bad

Hopefully I've laid it out pretty clear what I prefer, hopefully you guys got some good stuff :)

Uhh, Alexisonfire? Though I don't see how you could not have heard of them if you're a fan of that type of music.

I've heard a few, most of it sounded kinda punk-ish so I didn't bother digging deeper, what's their top song?

In Fear and Faith. Pretty awesome post hardcore stuff. They did an interesting "Gangsters Paradise" cover if you like that sort of thing as well.

Ah GettingTired, nice. I've listened to We Came As Romans before, the techno voice stuff they do kinda turned me off when I first heard them, might give em another shot. And I already listen to From Autumn and ABR, thats why i needed some more 'melodic' stuff :P

The only one I still listen to is "This Could Be Anywhere in the World".

I guess I'll also post I See Stars. I don't really like this kind of music anymore, but friends who like it seem to think the band is pretty good.

Hm, you could try Protest the Hero and Atreyu also, but they're more metalcore, but definitely more melodic.

Gorilla Biscuits are a good example of Melodic Hardcore. Melodic Post-hardcore I'd suggest Alexisonfire, Thrice, Greeley Estates, In Fear And Faith, Scary Kids Scaring Kids.

I don't really know a lot about post-hardcore, but would this kind of thing be what you're looking for? Though, it's not exactly post-hardcore. :?

The band that Omar and Cedric were in before The Mars Volta were a Post-Hardcore band. At The Drive-In.

Props for recommending The Mars Volta, though. It made me realize that I really haven't listened to them in the past few weeks.

The fairly new Cheap Trick album called "the latest" is pretty good and melodic.

Here's a sample.

Still tryin to listen to everything posted, thanks for the responses guys. We Came as Romans was a good one, I'd tried them before but didn't really get into them..second time around I see they got some good stuff. -- And to Daniel72296, yeah, I said i didn't want any traditional "hardcore", honestly that stuff gets old quick :?

So what exactly makes something Melodic as a genre? The songs you posted didn't technically sound melodic to me. Can someone fill me in on the "genre?"

*Edit* o I re-read your post and I think I understand what you meant, :P

Just a couple features I look for are stuff like lighter guitars, clean vocals mixed with screams, not a constant use of bass drums, instrumental breakdowns. Here's a good example of "melodic hardcore".. at least to me : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SuEcpucodo

check out their album Crisis if you want 'atmospheric' stuff (or what i think you mean by atmospheric). i think that's their best album. listen to Rough Hands if you want something soft from them.
