Studies like this may show tenancies, but do not warrant broad conclusions about "men and women."

I would argue that there are more differences within gender groups than between them.

Story

Excerpt: In addition, their brains showed different activation when looking at men versus women's eyes. Men's amygdala a brain region tied to emotions, empathy, and fear activated more strongly in response to men's eyes. In addition, other brain regions tied to emotion and behavior didn't activate as much when the men looked at women's eyes.

Ladies, this is why when we ask you "what's wrong" and you say "nothing", we take you at your word.

I'm ahead, I'm a man, I'm the first mammal to wear pants...

Or maybe guys just take them at their word because it's too much effort to try and find out what's wrong if the only answer they're going to give is "nothing" anyways.

It's a trap. If you guess the wrong answer, she's now pissed at you over two things. At least.

I never take that response as fact. I can tell when it's not "nothing". I've just given up on trying to get her/them to to actually say what it is. When I ask, either tell me what wrong or don't expect me to care for long.

Women are all bad; at least in today's generation. As I've stated before, getting into a relationship with them is just as similar as castration. Ackad

I'm in a great 2-year-long relationship now, first serious one since my divorce. Difference this time around is we each have our own place, and just pay each other extended visits (she lives 5 minutes away). That way we aren't up in each others ass crack 24/7. It's working out well so far.

Same, but I mean, 'on the record'. As in, "I did ask."

That's typically what I saw when they don't want to say what the issue is.

^^ This is me exactly.  If I ask, f*cking tell me.  If you jsut say nothing, I don't think I can be bothered to put any more effort into finding out.

I've had a great deal of success in reading certain women's emotions.  Others are difficult.  I'd take this with a big helping of salt.  The hardest part is getting the woman to even look you in the eyes.

Brain activity and behavior are directly related. Differences in brain scan results could be related to the sampling and/or cultural tendencies. The study is interesting, but I don't think it says that "men can't read women."

VendettaRed07

you don't even need to read them.U Just need logic.

1. if they're a woman, assume they're thinking irrationally.

2. have her make you a sammitch

3. ???

4. Profit.

This is why i'm so concerned with feminism and the more than equal rights women have gained in the past century. They already have way, way too many natural advantages! In an age where vibrators and artificial insemination exists it's only a matter of time until they realise the male gender is obsolete and decide to get rid of most of us :(

Yeah make fun of me. Well when the man hunter killer fembots come for you then you will know it and you will wish you had have listened to the insightful, brave and wise gamespot forum prophet who tried to bathe you in his infinite wisdom. Let it be said in the chronicles of our demise that those who refused the wisdom bath were the dirtiest of all!

Socialization is probably still a huge factor (although I certainly won't argue that it's the only one); men are generally discouraged from developing emotional sensitivity, and this deficit most likely contributes to an impoverished (albeit still amenable to change) empathic ability among many men. As the study has not ruled out socialization it's not very conclusive. That is, I fail to see how it strongly supports the idea that men are inherently less able to read women's emotions.

Yeah, for me, guys are more vague. Its harder to tell if they are hiding something, how they feel, or if they just don't care.

Where as girls are more calculated and thought out, and almost have a reason for everything behind what they say or do. They do try to mislead or not tell the whole truth but I can normally guess what they are trying to say or how they really feel about something. Guys its just a crap shoot guessing game.

If you know how to read people, have patience to be observant on every level, than you can read 'em like a book. Course there are always a few pro's that sneak through the land mines but hopefully the barb wire and German shepards will slow them down enough for the MG turrets to get a good fix on them.

Probably because they're "allowed" to express their true feelings whereas for guys, unless they're pissed or being macho, they rarely show their feelings.

Where do you find these women that allegedly dont tell you whats wrong when you ask them? Every girl I know talks my ear off when I ask them whats wrong. Its usually my male friends that bottle up their emotions.
