Did you hate the album? Asking since I know alot of people who came away from it madly in anger with Metallica, but I totally loved it. I haven't heard quite every Metallica album but I've heard the majority of the older ones, and it's my favourite of all of them, so far.

If you hated it, why? If you loved it, why do you think so many hardcore Metallica fans hated it?

yup, i like most of it, and although it does indeed sound like a bunch of hobos smashing trash cans together at times, if you listen to it for awhile (and i mean enough for it to grow on you) you can see that a lot of the actual music involved is quite good. Play a few of the riffs yourselves, and you'll see what i mean.

But DEFINITELY not where you'd direct new-metallica listeners.

Considering the current tone of the band, and how rick rubin is putting them back to standard tunings, I greatly look forward to the new album, which they're currently recording.

Glad someone can type more than a word or two, that's why so many threads get locked. So anyways, any idea when that album's due? And what will it sound most like do you think?

~-~The only song of Metallica's I've heard is St. Anger. The song wasn't bad, good for background in Half-Life.:) Not really my genre of music so I didn't bother looking for anything more.~-~

The reason fans didn't like it, is because they changed their style. As for me, I like the album, but compared to any of their other albums, it's inferior.

I had it on a mixed CD to take up space, but then again I never really like Metalica.  The only song I actually like is Enter Sandman.

Well most people that don't like Metallica, only like Enter Sandman. The song is amazing, but sadly, that's the only song that people can find a common ground with.

I was a Metallica fan like 15 years ago right when they stopped making real metal. I have alot of respect for them making St Anger. They wrote a personal album about what they wanted and didn't care what their label or fans wanted. That's what music is about. Only write what you want and if no one likes it, oh well. As music, I don't care for it. It has some alright parts, but they deserve respect for making what they want instead of letting money and label push them around like so many other bands probably do.

Well said. I usually dislike fan-servicey releases. Movies, music, games, anything.

I don't own the album, so I haven't heard every song, but I thought it was ok. Their old songs were much better imo

St. Anger was okay, but Metallica was so much better before. That being said, I did like the song, but the rest of the album was really lacking. I guess it's better than them releasing the same crap over and over again.

Metallica are a great band but I think St. Anger is a poor album.
