It was pretty good, not as good as Ride the Lightning for sure. And also some of metallica's newer stuff isn't bad (except st. anger). King Nothing, No Leaf Clover, Fuel, there's some other good ones.
I think it was a zenith of whatever musical idea they were thinking of at the time. A perfect bridge between their earlier timeless stuff and the later more mainstream stuff.
