I was just wondering if you guys think if MMA will ever become an olypic sport. It is a sport which requires alot of skill to do well in. Do you think it will ever be possible for people to look past the violence and bring it to the olympics? I mean boxing is an olympic sport, yes it is not as violent but it is still a fighting sport. And if it is accepted will it have the same rules or will it be made less violent(i.e. stopping with a serious cut, not letting the fighter keep attacking until the ref jumps in, etc)?

unlikely. in olympic boxing they wear headpads. if they wore headpads in olympic MMA, it would make for some extremely unexciting bouts. not only that, but MMA is a relatively new sport, and it has nowhere near as many practitioners as judo, boxing, or wrestling.

No, because MMA is a mix of fighting styles, you couldn't really determine who is the better fighter.

MMA is international enough that it doesn't need the olympics to promote it.

Besides, none of the stars that you would want to see in it would go for it, as it would waste their energy that they could have used for the regular MMA matches.

No. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think most fighting Olympic sports are point based. MMA isn't.

maybe. its gotta be better than the ufc crap, thats for sure. at least itll be a tournament style, or at least have legit contenders. in ufc its all about the matches dana wants to see, not who actually deserves it

Brothers, why should we let two men, as brothers in christ, force ill will upon each other. GOD A'MIGHTY, this ain't Rome! COME TOGETHER, brothers! GOD A'MIGHTY!

I doubt it. The two major problems I see would be big name stars not competing in the games and it would have to be a tournament style, where the risk of injury can increase easily.

dude, MMA without the tons of violence that it already has wouldn't be MMA. "stop when a serious cut occurs" yeah guess what, 9 out of 10 MMA fighters end up with around 5 of those "serious cuts" or just general injuries after every single fight.

How about Muay Thai as an Olympic sport? That would be the best.

Yeah, I did it for a year and was trained by a world champion. I'd love to see it on Olympics haha, kids would love it.

Now, no. But give the sport a few more years and it will definitely be a candidate.

the Muay Thai that the world sees in sports is majorly neutered. theres actually some people alive who still practice the original form of it, and its pretty much one hit kills.
