With UFC 105 airing tonight and Pacquio vs Cotto airing tomorrow. Which sport do you prefer? MMA(UFC in particular) hasn't been around nearly as long as boxing but I think the sport has grown into it's own this past decade.

[QUOTE="get-ka12"]Muay Thai owns them both.Razor-LazorThere's Muay Thai in MMA. Yeah, I know. :P
Thai boxing probably the coolest solo martial art in the world.
I've taken a lot of martial art/fighting classes in my life, including MMA type classes.
The MMAclasses are confusing as heck and very hard to learn. The muay thai classes were be far the easiest to learn and get into and by far the most fun. Easy to learn, hard to master.
The tae kwon do classes were just plain useless. hehe Bowing and all that junk, what a waste of time.
Whenever someone wants to know what the one best martial art to get into is, I ALWAYS reccomend muay thai, not because I'm some fanboy, but because it truly is the best.

There's Boxing in MMA too...
Good point.I don't enjoy either of them for the exact same reason for both: The really big fights between the top two in the sport are entertaining to watch, all the other ones are just boring.
MMA. Boxing cannabalized itself in the 90's and the only reason we are even talking about boxing is because manny actually has got people a little interested again. But there are lots of things boxing needs to do if it ever wants to be popular again.mattykovaxExactly how I feel. the UFC has done a fantastic job at marketing and gaining fans over the years.

While I love boxing and have been sparring for a while now, MMA knows how to build hype and get people interested in the fights being shown. Heck, I'm psyched for Ortiz vs. Griffin 2 even though it's an overall lacklustre UFC event.

If you want to get technical, there is also boxing in muay thai.I wouldn't have thought so... they are two very different arts. Punches aren't all that boxing is about. All I am saying is Boxing shouldn't be viewed as an opposite to MMA when MMA isn't actually a martial art, it's type of fighting competition
I like MMA better, but I have the option to watch both Pacquiao v. Cotto and UFC 105 tonight, and I chose the boxing just because I want to see Pacquiao stomp Cotto more than I want to see Couture dust off his gloves :P
If it wasn't for Pacquaio I wouldn't be interested in watching boxing lately. The last time I was really into boxing was because of Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. I appreciate boxing but I feel that MMA just have more exciting fighters and fights right now. I'm watching the fights before the Pac vs Cotto main event right now and to be honest I have no idea who these boxers are. I'll be watching both tonight but I don't really want to blink or switch when Manny is on screen. Go Manny!
As for taste, I have to say boxing without a doubt. Since nothing against MMA but it's too focused on grappling in my opinion and I prefer striking.
I have nothing against MMA, it's just doesn't catch my interest very much. UFC in particular is very boring; WEC, Strikeforce, everyone puts on better fights then the UFC.
MMA has a long way to go to be compared to boxing in depth.

Boxing seems boring in comparison to the MMA, at least it does these days.joesh89

you all know mayweather marquez slaughtered ufc 103 in ppv buys right?
Boxing was cool in the 90's. MMA is better now.b1lalI hate this debate since most MMA fans can't back up the claims they make.
A good boxing match will beat a good MMA fight any day. I really like MMA but watching Fedor throw wide looping hooks it just makes me cringe. Chuck Liddell is probably the biggest name in UFC hisotry but watching his old fights you just wish that one good boxer would show him how to throw properly because it's just ugly. Also bad MMA fights are worse than bad boxing fights just simply because the cardio of boxers is unreal compared to taht of MMA fighters. Those HW is TUF10 gas after like 3 minutes mkaing the rest boring.
Muay Thai owns them both.get-ka12Awesome, do you practice Muay Thai? I love it, started doing it a few months ago.
[QUOTE="mhh91"]MMA Is more like watching dogfights,Boxing is more of a sportBig_Bad_SadI agree with this.
Because so many dogs are Olympic level wrestlers and ADCC champions.
Pretty hard to look at someone like Georges St. Pierre, Anderson Silva, or BJ Penn and not see the skill. They're some of the most well rounded fighters in the world. GSP wrestles with the Canadian Olympic team, spars with professional boxers, grapples with ADCC champions while training under some of the worlds best black belts, and his Muay Thai instructor is a former world champion. GSP is a great example of what MMA is all about. Incredible athletes who can fight at a high level in several disciplines.

Yeah, I took lessons some time ago, but I learned the basic skills and now Ijust practiceat home. I own a 100 lb bag that I wail on.
It really is underrated, because it is so easy to pick up, so simple to learn, and so effective as well. MMA grappling was way too confusing, and tae kwon do was a little too formal for me, but I honestly feel Muay Thai is the best solo martial art in the world. Not much else holds a candle, if you want to be a butt kicker, I always recomend it, haha
Best martial art I've ever tried, and I've been in a lot.
I tend to prefer MMA over boxing as of late, though I still have a strong respect and appreciation for boxing.

hahaha and I love every SECOND of it!!! :D
Yeah, 'muay' is the word that means 'boxing' in that language. And since Thai basically represents the country, think of it as that country's style of boxing.
muay thai = thai boxing
They mean the exact same thing. I use the terms interchangable sometimes, hehe
Also, Muay Boran means "ancient boxing."
'muay' = boxing
'boran' = ancient
MMA and regular boxing, you're beautiful and I'm gonna let you finish, but Muay Thai is the greatest martial art in the whole world.

Just punch a pillow or something if you don't have a bag, there is a way to substitute if you are strapped.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to get your cardio up and practice the same thing over and over again until you are so good at it that you are sick of it. Best method and there is no other way.
