Boxers are world-class athletes, which is why some of them make upwards of 30 million for a fight. MMA is cool and they're also great athletes, but those guys are kidding themselves if they think they stand a chance against the likes of Floyd Mayweather or Vitali Klitscho.SmashBrosLegend
Don't assume too much. In a straight boxing match the boxers will win of course, but if it was just a plain fight I would say the MMA guys have a better chance at winning.

Vitali Klitscho has such amazing reach that they wouldn't be able to get close to him, and Mayweather is so fast they wouldn't lay a finger on him. A lot of mixed-martial artists are failed boxers and wrestlers. That's why they went to UFC/Pride/ect, because they couldn't handle the best of the best pro boxers.[QUOTE="Manly-manly-man"][QUOTE="SmashBrosLegend"]Boxers are world-class athletes, which is why some of them make upwards of 30 million for a fight. Besides, it's better to watch two men standing up and slugging at each other then to two guys lay on top of each other.
EDIT: Lol, I thought that you meant Floyd Patterson
OMG are you guys kidding yourseves? An MMA fighter would win in a boxing match too! MMA guys have all sorts of training, they know boxing and more, you can't be considered an MMA fighter if you know bits and pieces of an art, you have to know it all! Watch Fight Quest and Fight Science on discovery and nat. geo. channel and you'll know why, try youtube or something.ElArab
An MMA fighter knows how to box, but not nearly as well as a professional boxer.
I think both sports can't really be compared. Boxing is a technical sport, while MMA is about technique. Comparing the two is really apples and oranges. rimnet00
Agreed. Totally different styles of fighting so no comparison, really.

Fact is that if an mma guy can get past the initial few punches, most are gonna take the boxers to the mat ... which is completely out of their element. When most boxers are taken down, they literally have no idea what to do next. Not to mention that jui-jitsu is widely considered the best individual martial art (even when you count boxing), and most mma fighters utilize at least some jui-jitsu. As far as them being fast, that only applies to their fists. Their footwork is designed to dodge punches, not takedowns.
Nobody in this world can beat Floyd Mayweather Jr.Kahuna_1
You need to be specific here ... Randy Couture would dominate little Floyd, so would Tim Sylvia. But in his weight class, there aren't many. I think it was already said but GSP could probably beat him without a problem, and for that matter so could Matt Hughes and BJ Penn.
Mixed Martial Artists hands down. The only area in which a boxer will win is, of course, boxing. And that doesn't account for a striking match, where suddenly the boxer has to worry about not only punches, but kicks, elbows, knees and the clinch game. Leg kicks alone are enough to slow down a boxers rhythm.
Now lets factor in the ground game. Not only is it something that the boxer is unskilled in, it's foreign too them, it's a completely new way of thinking. A boxers best chance of competing in MMA is not too try to become proficient at grappling, that would take far too long (10 years on average to gain a brazilian jiu jitsu black belt, and lets not forget about wrestling, the base of most fighters skills). Instead his best bet would simply be to try to develop a solid submission defense, train too avoid the submissions and get back on his feet. A boxer would have to train for MMA for multiple years if he wished to stand even a chance against the middle tier competitors.
There are many fighters in MMA who thrive on their standup skills, but don't make the mistake of believing that they're one dimensional fighters. People like Chuck Liddell, Wanderlei Silva, Anderson Silva, CroCop, etc are all accomplished wrestlers and brazilian jiu jitsu practicioners. Of the four fighters I mentioned, both Wanderlei and Anderson are brazilian jiu jitsu black belts. Chuck Liddell is a purple belt, and CroCop is also a purple belt underneath Werdum. They all rely almost entirely on their standup.
Helio Gracie challenged Joe Louis (by many considered the greatest to have ever lived), Primo Carnera and Ezzard Charles too no-holds-barred fights. All three a much larger than him, and all three are considered boxing greats, all three declined.
Royce Gracie challenged Mike Tyson to a no holds barred fight and Mike Tyson declined the offer.
More recently, Sean Sherk publicly challenged Floyd Mayweather (currently considered to be the worlds greatest boxer) too a fight in the UFC. After much trash talking on Floyd Mayweathers part, he declined.

Fedor Emelianenko might. If anyone can, he'd be able to. All Fedor would need to do is get in close, and Fedor is a fast dude. Once he grapples Floyd, it's over.
Might? Fedor is bar none the best MMA fighter today. He would absolutely destroy Mayweather.
You can't really compare them since boxers are specialists at boxing thats all the train where as MMA fighters have to train ju-jitsu, kickboxing and wrestling at the very least and that in itself means they wont be as specialized however i think they are a lot more dangerous put it this way if you put a top MMA fighter in the ring with a top boxer of the same weight division he will get his a** handed to him and vice versa.
Boxing is making a big comeback. Especially in Britain. I like the hype suyrrounding this comeback so I'm gonna say Boxing. MMA is too wishy-washy.Total-KOGotta agree with the first statement, boxing is becoming something here. Moving away from the "Thug sport" mentality and people are actually enjoying the sport. RIcky Hatton lost, sure, but litteraly every person in Britain showed his or her support for him. MMA have become popular in a more.. 'mainstream' crowd so to say, sometimes makes it look a bit too much like American gladiator. At least from what I've seen, when folks watch an MMA fight they will comment on how 'big' the person is, rather than his actual combat ability. Everyone can flex a muscle, but Christ... Still though, we got people like Fedor. He doesn't look like much, at all. Could really just be a bloody office worker, but when he gets in the ring.. What to say? He's a monster.
MMA- more diverse however grapplers **** me off really bad, there should be more good standing battles. And price and K1 is better than UFC in my opinion
There are less constrictive rules in MMA which widens the success pool a lot. Joe blow brawler can be an MMA champion but would get owned in a boxing match because he lacks form and training and cant just take a guy to the ground and pound him to death.
I like them both but i prefer boxing. Even in MMA the part i enjoy the most is the stand up striking.
MMA fighters would get owned in boxing because of the rule set
Boxers would get owned in MMA because of the rule set.
They are 2 different sports. You cant compare them. Its apples and oranges.
