Greetings denizens of Gamespot, and welcome back to the next instalment of what's to be an ongoing exploration into the strangest and darkest reaches of the internet – the mind of a moderator.

Important to note that this is not just an Off Topic thing, but a Q&A that encompasses all of Gamespot, with mods from across the boards and where all users are welcome to participate. There are sticky notifications in all the major discussion boards (General Gaming Discussion and System Wars) as well as the platform specific boards to brings every poster in every part of gamespot under one roof for this ongoing series. So you'll interact with the mods you're familiar with and get to know the others from different parts of the forums.

Oh you might think the life of a moderator is all champagne and caviar, fame & fortune, and prestige beyond measure. But let me assure you fine folks that nothing could be farther from the truth. For one thing we don't even get paid for what we do :P So now peer beneath the veil as you get to find out what makes us tick.

Each week (from Wed-Wed), one of us will assume the Hot Seat and take questions from you, the life blood of this community. Oh sure you could ask us what our favourite food is, or movie, or actor, or get our opinions on gaming. But why stop there? Want to know what super power we would choose if we could possess one? Where we would go if we could travel in time? Who we think would win in a fight between Wolverine and Sonic the Hedgehog?

Be inventive. Be imaginative. By all means push us to the brink of our sanity  And while some playful ribbing is permitted here (even encouraged ;) ), don't get outright offensive or insulting. TOU rules still apply. But also let me emphasise although you can ask about our experiences as a mod, this isn't about moderation inquiries, or a supplement to Ask the Mods. Also mods will reserve the right not to answer a question if it gets too personal.

Think of it more like we're all just chillin' at a bar, getting to know each other in conversation and just having fun. Take it as a social experience.

OUR BODIES ARE READY!!

And now I'm pleased to give the seat over to the Musical Moderator, make yourself comfortable and take on these opening questions;

Gender?

Where are you from?

How'd you come up with your username?

The boards you frequent most, and the unions you're a member of?

What was the first moderation you received and when?

Which is your favourite game original sound track? Also your favourite movie score?

Even given the new rules in Gamespot, what rule would you change or add to System Wars?

Congratulations on your recent marriage. But let's take that aside. Who's your celebrity crush? ;)

If you could implement an inception in any game developer, which one and with what idea?

If you were making the Mass Effect movie, would it star a male or female Shepard, and who would you cast for the part?

If a Marathon game to be made by Bungie was announced for early 2013, but cancelled in 2012, what would you do to Bungie?

Not an actual question per se but... POST PICTURES OF YOUR PUPPY :)

Would you agree that inviting mods from inferior boards (System Wars, General Gaming Discussion, etc.) lowers the quality of the Moderator's Hot Seat series? Would you agree that the fine noble nature of Off Topic is soiled when riffraff are allowed to enter?

Gender?

I'm a dude, dude.

Where are you from?

Illinois, located in the heart of the great US of A.

How'd you come up with your username?

Came up with is ages and ages ago. I liked macs, I was a pretty accomplished musician, decided to stick the two together.

The boards you frequent most, and the unions you're a member of?

System Wars and mobile forums are my main haunts. I'm a member of a few unions, leader of most... *shifty eyes*

What was the first moderation you received and when?

Long time ago. Trolling. I was a spicy fellow when I joined up. Thankfully they still took me for a mod. :')

Which is your favourite game original sound track? Also your favourite movie score?

Couldn't possibly pick. Recently I've become quite partial to the Halo game music CDs, as well as Star Trek and Inception scores. Nice and big.

Even given the new rules in Gamespot, what rule would you change or add to System Wars?

It's not a rule, but I wish the forum were self aware -- auto-hiding stupid things. Yes, I'd like that.

Congratulations on your recent marriage. But let's take that aside. Who's your celebrity crush? ;)

Thanks. Katy Perry. :|

If you could implement an inception in any game developer, which one and with what idea?

I'd get Bungie and WideLoad together, so the old Marathon team were back in action. I'd like another Marathon called Marathon (not Halo).

If you were making the Mass Effect movie, would it star a male or female Shepard, and who would you cast for the part?

It would be a Mr. Shepard, and I would cast... Good question. I can't think of anything. OH! The Old Spice guy. Easy. 8)

If a Marathon game to be made by Bungie was announced for early 2013, but cancelled in 2012, what would you do to Bungie?

I'd rather not get banned, I'm going to hold my answer.

Not an actual question per se but... POST PICTURES OF YOUR PUPPY :)

I shall note that. Bug me again soon and I'll make a point of doing it -- maybe in this thread!! :o

Yes, I did shake his hand. We shared a moment. He said a few words. No, I am not Catholic. But how often do you meet the frickin' a-Pope!? [QUOTE="mmmwksil"]

Would you give up your badge and be a normal user again?

Also, are you awesome?

I already think of myself at GS as a normal user with some superpowers. The loss of the badge would simply mean I couldn't help in situation where mod powers would be needed. My main concern is the community, and whatever I can do to help foster the community is my goal -- even if that means using my forum powers. And am I awesome? I shall leave that up to you and the esteemed OT forum fans.

I see you on the mobile phone forums a lot. What's your favorite iOS/Android app? Game?

Steameffekt
Use a ton of apps, really partial to Instagram, Flipboard, and AppShopper on a regular basis. As far as gaming goes, I've been playing a lot of Words with Friends, Street Fighter 4 Volt, and Groove Coaster.

iOS 5.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich?

verbtex
iOS 5, please.

I hate Apple products because you love them. And my occupation is in the college admission world. I work at a private school, reading applications and making admission recommendations -- along with a whole host of other responsibilityes like overseeing staff and student employees. My dream occupation? That's a tough one. I've considered many times entering the Peace Corps or something similar (wife is totally on board, also she is totally hot).

Actually he would be best suited for Jacob I think.

Bands? Project 86, Hope for the Dying, Zao, Blindside, Fair, Living Sacrifice, Two Steps from Hell, Daft Punk, Celldweller, The Dining Rooms, E.S. Posthumus, Reel Big Fish, The Prodigy, and Seal to name a few off the top of my head. Drink? Gotta love dat Guinness. I have a tendancy to run into famous people. Pope Benedict, Naomi Judd, Boomer Esiason, Trace Adkins, a few politicians, Gabe from The Office (lol), um, there are a couple others I can't recall right now. Favorite sport is without a doubt soccer, followed by baseball and basketball, but I usually like anything anyone would consider a sport (except for Texas Hold'em... bad).

A mod I've never heard of :O

parkurtommo
It's always all about you, huh?

Just how musical are you really?

Feryraiser
I can play the piano, trumpet, any percussion instrument including the set, and the french horn. I also produced for a number of hip-hop artists who never quite made it big, sadly due to gang violence. This second life as a producer is ironic because I am not really into that hip-hop scene. I've done some music for colleges, written some music for other reasons, and come up with original scores for short films. Sang by request at the capitol. That gives you an idea.

JarOfGunz
I never formally studied music at any level. The instruments I play are listed earlier in the thread. The office Christmas Party is actually going to be held at la casa de musicalmac this year. I'm not sure I care to change anything, I've got it pretty good, my focus is on being thankful for that! And here's a fun fact -- I never believed in Santa Claus, but my younger sister did. Don't know why...

Several questions to warm up the seat:

Would you feel offended if you accidentally walked into a gay bar and nobody hit on you?

Ignoring the highly improbable situation of "accidentally walking into a gay bar," I'd say I wouldn't worry about not getting hit on. I don't base my self-worth on how much attention I get, women or men.

Chicken, Beef or pork?

Beef is the correct answer.

Would you sit in a coffin full of spiders for 1 minute if it meant winning 1 million dollars?

What kinds of spiders are we talking?

Redheads, blondes or brunettes?

I'm not choosy, the wife is blonde, though.

And... well, I'm spent.

That wasn't hot at all! -mac

do you know andreally hot asian/japanese women that are willing to date a 5'4'' male?

I know a number of women from Japan and China. Do I know if they would be willing to date a 5'4" male? That I do not know. It may be inappropriate to ask -- they are students, after all. College students. ;)

oh and what ever happen to the mods hacking into our post to answer our questions?

Good idea. Don't know why I didn't think of it in the first place. -mac

Is SW worse now than before? Or better?
Better. Now we just need a new round of consoles and it'll be a real bucket full of laughs.

If Santa Claus showed up at your doorstep, would you believe in him then?
Not until he touched his nose and shot back up through my fireplace into his sleigh, and flicked me off soaring into the night sky.

If you were evil and planned to take over the world, would you tell your enemy about your magnificent plan minutes before you stopped him/her?
Good question. I paused to consider my anwer at my desk. Would I tell? No, if I were truly evil, I'd want those around me to follow my example. Don't give the hero enough attention to even let people consider him a hero.

Most evil game character is who?
Durandal. No, Tycho. They bad.

And how think is your internet skin really?
Pretty thick. Like, level 85 in Skyrim thick, with all the perks. Except the one that reminds me other people don't have that kind of resilliancy to intense internet discussions. Pelple can be so touchy.

Countries travelled to?
Ireland, England, Spain, Italy, Costa Rica, Canada... I think that's it. I feel like I'm missing one. -mac

Good to know. I know about a few of the other mods that were in the Hot Seat from threads in OT.

To start, what part of the site do you mod? I don't think I've ever seen you before.

The whole part. I spend most of my time in the mobile boards and in SW. Sometimes I visit OT, which is why you probably haven't seen me around much.

What do you think about nuclear energy? In general, should it be used to power cities and/or use nuclear weapons?

I think nuclear energy is fine, I just think we should really think twice about where we're putting plants. Fault lines on the coast? Not a good idea -- clearly. Very sad situation. I have the utmost respect for those who sacrificed their health and life for the good of their nation.

Do you like President Obama?

I'm very tired of the blame game. I'm tired of empty hyperbole. This is a larger problem in politics, not just an Obama thing. Honestly I have not been impressed with President Obama's actions thus far. However, I am not about to judge too harshly -- it's one of the toughest jobs in the world, and nobody knows the whole story of what being a president means. I don't blame him for everything like some would do. I think that's short-sighted, naive, and too easy.

What's your opinion on the Libyan Civil War?

I have a connection to this situation, because I have family in Libya. I believe in freedom. I hope to God that's what people get.

Should Pakistan be allowed to own nuclear technology?

Tough question. Nuclear weaponry in a volitile region seems like a terrible thing to add to the mix. I do believe nuclear power could really help to improve the lives of many people. It's a hard line to walk.

I noticed alternate forms of energy are being investigated and experimented on to fuel cars. In regards to that, does anything in particular spark your interest?

I love the idea of alternative sources of energy. However, my interest isn't from an environmental standpoint, but from an economic standpoint. Cheaper modes of transportation will be a big boon the the world's economy, which can lead to higher living quality.

Do you support Gay marriage?

I don't believe it's the government's role to regulate marriage, be it the marriage between two men or two women, or the marriage between a man and a handfull of sister-wives. I support people loving one another.

What do you know about Occupy Wallstreet and do you support the movement?

I don't know enough to speak on the topic. My initial impression is that it would be more appropriately named #occupyfirstworldproblems.

On a lighter note:

Ever been to B.B. King's restaurant in TN? Since your name's got music in it, I thought you might be interested in him.

I have not, but I have been to that area many times. I love Charlie Vergo's Rendezvous Charcoal Ribs in downtown Memphis. I had them ship a couple slabs of ribs to my dad for his birthday this past October. Love the food in TN. I shall keep this place in mind on my next trip to the south. -mac

what's your take on Casey being demoted?

NICE. That's a good friggin' question. I feel many things regarding the Casey situation. I'm sad it has gotten to this point, I'm sad it has been such a public, ongoing issue. It's a shame because like it or not, Casey has played a role in the GS community (SW specifically) for nearly a decade. What happens from here is not up to me, though I certainly appreciate the toll both sides have had to cope with. I think whatever is best for the community is what should be done. What that is, I cannot say. It's not my decision to make.

How's that? -mac

Ever been depressed?

Not clinically so. We all get sad. Girls, work, school -- sad happens. I'm not about to belive my issues are more significant than anyone elses. Thus far in my life, I haven't faced any problems I would consider any worse than #firstworldproblems (save for a couple medical issues, which are worrisome at any level). For this I am infinitely thankful. I never had to worry about being drafted into war, I've never had to worry about whether or not I'll have food for the week, and I've never had to worry about whether or not I'll have a bed to sleep in or a roof over my head. We have it good, my friends. Be thankful for that.

Oh, I see.

Okay.

The ongoing game Blame: "Government Edition" is annoying. Running the U.S. is certainly not a one-man job.

What's your opinion on the Libyan Civil War?

I have a connection to this situation, because I have family in Libya. I believe in freedom. I hope to God that's what people get.

So do I. I wish them the best.

Good answer.

Understandable. A society's needs must come first if it's going to last. I know that may sound harsh, but it's reality. However, there's a line that has to be established to prevent said society from destroying itself. Speaking of an economic standpoint, I was reading an article on tech that almost made it big. The most memorable part of that article was where it mentioned how electric carsalmost became the number one form of transportation. Things changed when oil deposits were found in TX in about 1900.

Free love.

What do you know about Occupy Wallstreet and do you support the movement?

I don't know enough to speak on the topic. My initial impression is that it would be more appropriately named #occupyfirstworldproblems.

I was hoping someone could tell me. They don't seem to have a collectively established goal.

Nice. Never been to Memphis. B.B. King's place has a good reputation. Check it out sometime. MusicalMac

The thing you most regret?

How I handled some past relationships. I feel I let people down, and had my actions differed, I could have saved them a lot of pain and heartache. When I think about it too much, it can weigh on me more than I'd like to admit. But I don't make it my goal to relive my mistakes. What is done is done. The world works out the way it does for a reason, even if it's not clear why. -mac

I see you like Macs so a few questions about that.

1. Why? :P

2. I'm assuming you like it better than Windows, do you like it better than Linux (any distro) and why do you like it compared to them?

3. For recording music (interested in recording my own soon) Mac or Windows?

4. If you would say recording music on a Mac, is garage band a good application? (I could get it for my iPad, and I have garage band 09 on the Macbook Pro I got from work) I want to record hard rock and heavy metal tracks, and I saw you can do drum tracks with it (I play guitar) so I wanted to have a program that wouldn't take a lot of time to learn to do drum tracks to play along with and record.

Sorry for the length of that last one, figured I'd ask you since your Musical and Mac (ical?) :P

What's do you think about the changes to the forums?

Necessary. I like it. There will be growing pains, but we'll all come through better on the other side. May just take a while to get there. -mac

I see you like Macs so a few questions about that.

1. Why? :P

For my personal usage habits, Apple's products work better than the alternatives. My 6 year old Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro with OSX.7 multitasks better than my Win7 8-core Xeon workstation PC. I also like the aesthetics, and the design and product philosophy Apple has. I respect their goals.

2. I'm assuming you like it better than Windows, do you like it better than Linux (any distro) and why do you like it compared to them?

Same reasons I stated above. For me, it is the better option.

3. For recording music (interested in recording my own soon) Mac or Windows?

I would recommend the Apple route. At work, part of what I do is music, video, and photography. Working on OSX has thus far offered me a smoother, more error-free experience as compared to my Win7 experience. Not to mention, Apple gives away Garage Band with every new mac -- it's a killer app for music lovers.

Yes to everything. Garage Band on the iPad is a really neat app, great especially for laying down percussion tracks in absence of having a real, actual set.

Sorry for the length of that last one, figured I'd ask you since your Musical and Mac (ical?) :P

Don't hesitate to PM me if you have more specific questions. I've used Garageband a lot, to create music for a variety of different reasons. I use it with a keyboard (no guitar skillz :( ). -macMrJack3690
Had to quote. Wans't working in the edit for some reason.
