First off I have absolutely no problem with anyone not heterosexual.

I will admit I am an 8th grader, and in my small middle school (around 100 middle school students) 4 girls openly admitted to being Bi-Sexual (excuse me if I misspelled). Now this may be a small number, but none of them used to be bi or did not admit it. Now is this just a fad or something? Everytime I go on myspace I usually get a friend request from a pretty girl that I dont know and I check her profile and 5-10% are Bi. When I was in 5-7th grade I knew no one bi. Now Im wondering why are so many girls are turning up bi?

Could be a passing fad. Otherwise, it could be that gay and bisexual people are more open about it now. Of course there aren't many so your rough statistics are probably right. Nothing wrong with more people admitting to being gay or bi, it's a part of who they are.

Probably for attention, although I don't want to generalize. Same thing happened when I was in 8th grade, these two chicks would just kiss to get guys' attention; they were never really attracted to each other.

Most of them are just experimenting or doing it to get attention. Also considering women are generally more comfortable touching and kissing one another than men are it's debateable how many who describe themselves as bisexual arn't really attracted to other women but are just sexually comfortable arround them and can tell when a women looks good.

Well, the thing is sexuality is often quite confusing, mostly because it seems like a lot of people don't even know what it really is. I've seen people say that your sexuality is determined by who you date... That's ridiculous.

Either way I at one time thought I was bi, too. Even though I wasn't. It wasn't really due to any fad, it was due to me not understanding what feelings signified sexuality and which ones didn't. If there's any 'fad' a bit of it is probably due to confusion, while the rest of it is probably due to attention-seeking, but the only bi person I know is a guy. I've never actually seen this so-called fad.

Well maybe they just don't really know, or people feel more comfortable these days just saying how they feel. Just leave them to it

ROFL! This topic makes me uncomfortable, as my daughter is about to FINISH 8th grade. Kids do what they think is cool/popular. Being bi has, sadly, been made popular. Sure, people could simply start becoming more comfortable with their sexuality, but at a certain point it's just ridiculous and obviously done for attention.

I'm sorry but I dont think 8th grade girls have had enough sexual experience to realize that they are bisexual.

You kids should just chill the frak out and stop thinking homosexuality is weird. It's been around for as long as man has.

People still use myspace? Everybody at some point wonders about their sexuality. It's often a fleeting thing, but it happens to everyone. 13 year old girls think they're more attractive to guys if they like (read: will suck face with) girls as well. I have absolutely no problem checking out girls and pointing out when they're hot, but I'm straight. younger girls usually have a very difficult time grasping that you can be like "DAMN she's attractive" but not want to have any sort of sexual or romantic relationship with the person.

They just came out of the closet. That's all...although in grade eight, admitting being bisexual...That's a bit early to fully understand yourself, I think they just want attention.

That's awesome. I agree with the consensus though on this board. They're just vying for attention most likely. Many of them might be honestly curious, but are using this confusion to feed their premature belief that they may be bisexual.

It's the same as Year 8, so like 12-13 years old.

Two words: attention seeking.

I don't know...i wouldn't really like it though..if they were my age...because i'd have to worry about EVERY person she talks to instead of just guys...

then again..they're only in 8th grade so...as everyone else said...probably uncertain/want attention..

In my school (I'm a high school senior) like 60% of girls today are lesbians/bi and the others are willing to try it with other girls. I really dont get why today girls are turning lesbians or bi. I've had many female friends that turn lesbian out of the blue.

I'm inclined to agree with this. I'm not going to jump and say they are doing it just to get attention (although this could very well be the case) -- A lot of people, specially younger peopleare confused about their sexuality and also confuse raw sexual attraction with feelings. The same could be said about people who have a welldefined sexuality as well.

Just an observation I have

It appears to me that it is somehow more acceptable for girls to openly admit they are bisexual or homosexual than guys. Guys get beat up or even killed in some occasions but I have not heard such incident with girls. I think some guys even find it very enticing that some girls are bisexual/homosexual

You can't say you are bi until you have sex with both genders. You can say you are bi-curious. For minors..... no sex = they have no idea what they are talking about.magicalclick

Please tell me you aren't being serious. I have never had sex but I know my sexuality. You don't have to have sex, you have a natural attraction towards the sex or sexes you are attracted to.

The confusion is caused by people thinking that sexuality extends to general attraction - finding somebody to be good looking. It seems to me that an alarmingly high number of people don't know that sexuality is about what turns you on sexually. Which is shocking, but whatever.

Well let me just say that it is actually the men in general who have created that double standard. How many times have you heard "I'm against gays, but lesbian women are hot!" from a guy?

I really wish this double standard would go away, it also applies to cross-dressing. It's a very stupid double standard.

Would you say the same thing if it was a minor who was a virgin saying that they were straight? would you say "You don't know you're straight, you've never had sex", or does it only apply to homosexuals and bisexuals? Sexuality and attraction has nothing to do with physically having sex, really. Plenty of people have never had sex and know which gender(s) they're attracted to without a doubt.

I called myself bisexual that early, and it turns out that wasn't my true sexuality. I'm actually a lesbian...a lot of gay people come out as bisexual first.

And I didn't have to have sex with both genders to realize that. You didn't have have sex with the same sex to realize you were straight, did you?

Back when I was in grade 8, a lot of the grade 7s, especially the"emos" suddenly announced they were bi. I think this is a fad, possibly just to look cool and get attention, or they are just experimenting and learning about their sexuality.
