Poll Morning Classes vs Night Classes? (37 votes)

Mornings 62%
Nights 38%

So I'm signing up for classes and I can't figure out if it should be mostly nights or mostly mornings. I see there is a benefit of morning classes but I seem more focused during the nights. Still I prefer to start waking up earlier and leaving the evenings to other things.

So OT, would you rather have morning classes or night classes? If you don't do classes, I guess this can apply to most jobs out there.

I've had morning classes as well as night ones and them I dislike. I prefer morning. Like you said, I want to finish early so as to have the rest of the day free at my disposal. As a general rule, I like to be done with whatever duty I need to attend to as soon as possible to take it off my mind.

I'm a night person but, like John, I've had both morning classes and night classes and I much preferred getting it done with and then enjoy the rest of my day (if you don't have a job) than spending the whole day semi enjoying my time but thinking "still need to go to class".

Do what you want. Some people hate mornings and thrive at night and vice-versa.

I was a morning learner. But wasn't a morning person, lol.

Throughout most of my academic learning, I have attended morning and afternoon classes. I attended one night class and it was not bad, but I prefer to attend class sessions in the morning or afternoon.

Exactly. Not to mention that where I'm at, walking through the campus at night is not a very good idea. Gotta steer clear of them junkies, dealers or whatever their profession is lol. There have been muggings and other petty crimes. I once witnessed two students having their asses handed to them in broad daylight by two dealers. Negotiations didn't go as planned I guess.

@johnd13: Thankfully I never had to deal with that sort of thing but if you do in your area, that's yet another thing to keep in mind when choosing.

I loved morning classes. 7:00am and I'm there lock and ready. Any parking spot you want, no traffic, no line to get breakfast. The University was close to deserted, all quiet. That morning breeze, the tire but determined look on your fellow comrades, it is cold and miserable (in a good way) but we are in this together dammit.

God bless college, may He bless it indeed.

I'm not sure that there's a good way of being miserable unless you're a masochist.

Morning and night are both good times. Avoid the afternoon though that's when parking lots are packed, the campus is packed, and noticed a higher level of immature idiots in class

I can see why some people prefer morning classes, but I remember one semester in community college where I had classes back to back from 8:00 in the morning to 2:00 in the afternoon. Waking up and staying awake was difficult. I'm not a morning person in the slightest.

I don't like waking up early, but getting classes out of the way is usually the way to go. I had a night class once and it sucked knowing that I had to go back on campus again, whether you take morning or night classes, make sure they are blocked together at least.

Looks like I'm in the minority vote, I'm not a morning person, always prefer getting up late morning - early afternoon. (like around 10:30 AM to 1 PM.)

And I think I do prefer night classes as well, feels like a more interesting time of day to be in school, looking out, seeing stars instead of sunlight. I had at least 2-3 acting classes at night, and they felt just fine, had some good times.

@playmynutz: True but I noticed some exceptions. I took a night class but it was still filled with immature idiots but took an afternoon class where it was small but focused. I think it also depends on the type of class.

@johnd13: Thankfully, this isn't a major issue unless I'm a woman which in that case, I would be more likely to be assaulted or harassed.

Glad to see I'm not the only night owl here. :P

Waking up at 7 AM to get ready for an 8 AM class sucks big time.

I prefer morning and afternoon classes over night classes. I would get sleepy in night classes since they would most likely bore me.

I'm definitely not a morning person, but I much preferred morning classes. Did the community college thing from 7am to noon or so and was back home by 1pm. Still had the whole day to relax, catch a movie, etc. Way better than the night classes I've had.

I personally don't mind having classes up to 9 AM to 4-5 PM. Any lower or higher times than that, nope.

I hate waking up in the morning for classes but I'd much rather get everything out of the way by 12 or 1 than still be in class at 4 or 5. I would hate having classes even later than that, so no night classes for me. Though when I have the choice I like to have labs and recitations later in the day, to get more time to prepare.

While I usually get up at five in the morning for work, I am not a big morning person. I would prefer evening classes since I have no issue waking up late. I take my classes online anyway because trying to go to class in person isn't very practical even if if I'm taking evening classes since there's no guarantee I'll be off in time to get to class.

When I can I take night classes. Usually it's with people who are the same age as me, so it's a more comfortable learning environment.

Unless you have a reason to prefer night classes, I can't see why you would opt for that. This reason doesn't necessarily have to be a commitment forced on you. What I'm trying to say is that if you're planning on committing yourself to some undertaking during the day based on your own volition then that's good enough of a reason to choose night classes over morning ones. I think it can be fun to arrange your life in this way but only for a while. Eventually you'd want to go back to normal. Back when I was in college we didn't have night classes but there were certain sections of some courses with very late hours. I would always sign up to these and arrange my day so that I would finish classes at night. It was always fun to leave home after dark had fallen having had a highly productive day. I would just go home, have dinner, watch something and go to sleep. Needless to say, that left me with an abundance of time on other days which enabled me to get things done and even have some time for myself too.

I'm on the fence. In community college I would get to campus every day at 6:45am to wait for the library to open (gotta get the best spot :P), back then I would take morning classes. At university I find myself preferring late morning classes. I can wake up, have coffee, listen to music and relax a bit before lecture, then I have the evening free to experiment/build things. Having an extremely flexible work schedule makes morning classes more doable, I <3 being able to work at 2am on the toilet if I need to.

My schedule is looking odd this semester. 1 class on monday/wednesday 9am-10:15am...then 3 classes + 1 lab back-to-back 11am-6pm tuesday/thursday, one of which is a grad class on VLSI D:

What felt perfect for me was not starting any class until like 11 AM and having my latest class end by 5 PM or 6 PM. It let me sleep late but I was never at school at night. You might like that. I was jam packing my schedule though and only went to school Tuesday through Thursday. That was a great schedule but was filled with multiple max length classes and sometimes there'd only be like 15 minutes in between classes. I loved it though. Once the day started it was just boom boom boom like a blitzkrieg with no downtime to get comfortable and think about skipping a class.

The one thing I like about afternoon and night classes is that I don't have to worry about rushing out of bed to class. I hate being late. And in college people often head to bed at odd hours. Also there would be times I would need to print something or go over some study notes before a test and would have no time to do so with morning classes.

Late classes suck. The whole day you have the "I still have to go to school later' mentality.

Classes starting between 10am and 4PM; that's way to go.

I would go with morning classes.

I have tried having night classes and it just didn't work for me, it was not just because it would be dark during the winter but also because the evenings are where you usually tune down and relax. Not to mention its like some else said , you have that "darn i have to go to school" in the back of the head so i at least couldn´t really enjoy the day anyways.

I learned quickly that any class before 10am wasn't going to work out. Took a few at night, and grade wise they were my best class. It was easier to concentrate, due to less activity going on and I was relaxed. Only real issue is that it takes away the time I would use to write papers and study. Usually noon to 5 was what I shot for, and evening rather than morning. One class I waited two years to take because all but one time was in the early morning, and the afternoon class filled up with minutes of registration.
