Cuz an election is coming up. So often i think we discuss polarizing issues and we don't stop and ask why these things have even cropped up. But here's why:

The mosque - was on the cards well over a year ago. In fact, a whole article on the building and what it was for and why it was being built was published in several major newspapers over a year ago, and nobody noticed. Mayor Bloomberg was perfectly honest and blunt in his description of the controversy; 'they are simply trying to drum up hatred and polarize people so that they can pander for your votes. That's the only reason they're discussing this, because an election is coming up.'

Bam. Cold, hard truth.

Same with Glenn Beck's rally. Why is Sarah Palin there? Because she wants to be President in 2012. Why is it called 'restoring honor?' Because republicans want to play off the Tea Party craze and try and convince as many people as possible that America is broken and needs fixing. If honor needs to be restored, it must have been lost right? How many times a week does Glenn Beck tell you that America is in dire peril? That it's going to collapse or be taken over? That's what this rally is. A republican show of strength ahead of the elections so that they can remain relevant when really, policy wise, they have nothing to bring to the table.

So in conclusion, don't be a sucker for it. We're much more intelligent than they give us credit for.

Discuss. :P

Yep. They'll lie to your face until THEIR face turns blue that this isn't politically motivated, they didn't know it was the anniversary of MLK's speech. I've got nothing wrong with conservatives. I just can't stand Palin or Beck.

Of course it's for the elections. They want to be viewed as true Americans. You say that in a pejorative sense. Sometimes you have to toot your own horn to get noticed.

I'm pretty sure that Beck was aware that it was the anniversary of MLK's speech.

I am reminded of a punchline in a Frank Caliendo skit where he goes into his Madden persona, air circles his face, and goes, "here's a guy who gets it!"
