I have yet to see a zombie film I found horrifying actually... 28 Days Later is probably my favorite though.

None of them are horrifying.
But the wife-brutalizing scene in 28 weeks later made me cringe like hell)
If you know your horror, you should have heard of this film. I live in Canada and I have seen it. Its not that bad. I prefer Zombie (Zombi II) or City of the Living Dead, but overall its a decent zombie flick.

I didn't like Zombi II, but to each his own.

In terms of terrifying zombie films, Evil Dead II and Braindead immediately come to mind. Both are extremely brutal and gory, and are considered classics by the horror community.

Evil Dead was terrifying?

That movie was silly as hell.

And while I've never seen Braindead, this review makes it out to be 1% terrifying and 99% ridiculously and hilariously awesome...http://www.headinjurytheater.com/article100.htm

BTW, the above spoiler-heavy link has screen caps of some very gruesome images, so please do not click if you are squeamish.

But yeah...apparently I REALLY need to watch Braindead.

Slither was okay.

ANd for the record, I do NOT think Evil Dead II or Braindead are particularly frightening. They're 90% comedy anyways...(but amazing films nonetheless). :D

Yeah, Slither was pretty enjoyable. Kind of pissed me off with the "kill the head zombie" part, because that's one plot contrivance that I'm sick of. I absolutely HATE that crap when movies turn the entire town into zombies/vampires/demons/whatever, and then magically save everyone at the end just because the hero managed to kill ONE PERSON.

I HATE that. I have ALWAYS hated that. And when they pulled that crap in Star Trek: First Contact, I almost wanted my money back. Dude, they turned THE BORG into VAMPIRES. Think back to the first appearance of The Borg way back in Star Trek: The Next Generation. The most badass thing about the Borg seemed to be that there is NO central leadership because EVERY member of the Borg has access to the knowledge and wisdom and strategy of the entire Borg Collective. And that's a terrifying scenario. That's a scenario in which every single grunt you kill is in fact a General, and that General gets smarter every time you kill a member of the race. But then we get to First Contact, and now there's a Borg QUEEN who runs the show, and the heroes can completely defeat the Borg just by killing the queen? **** that. That completely removes what made The Borg scary in the first place, and it's just another example of "I can save my zombie/vampire girlfriend by killing the Head Zombie/Vampire."

I hate that ****. I have ALWAYS hated that ****. And **** Slither for doing exactly that.

But yeah, aside from that, Slither was pretty damn fun. A gross little monster pseudo-comedy that was loads of fun and didn't take itself too seriously.

On that note, I thought that Evil Dead 2 struck the best balance between horror and comedy. I thought that the first Evil Dead movie just took itself way too seriously, and as a result of this it ended up just being bad. And Army of Darkness took the comedy and slapstick so far that I was basically watching a dumbed down version of Looney Tunes, except with gore. Evil Dead 2 is okay though. I can watch that. It's silly as hell, but it takes itself just seriously enough that you can almost care about Ash. In Army of Darkness, I didn't care about Ash. That whole movie was so over-the-top and deliberately slapstick that Ash might as well have been Daffy Duck or Elmer Fudd.

Edit: But yeah, I didn't think that Slither was the least bit terrifyiong or frightening. I LIKED it, and it was a fun little gooey monster movie, but it was more "funny" and "awesome" than it was "scary". In that sense, it's a lot like the Evil Dead series. All those movies are just way too silly and/or hilarious to ever be scary or terrifying.

I've seen such an absurd amount of zombie flims that none of them retain any of the scares that they had originally.

Day of the Dead was scary moreso because of the people who were jerks and thinking about living with them than the zombies. Slither was OK, but I wouldn't watch it again.

I have never realized how annoying that is until you mentioned it... Now I have another thing to be cynical towards thanks to you. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the "head zombie" scene from Slither. It was incredibly hilarious. I'm going to cut this short since I have to run..I found Slither to be the best most recent film of the genre and I agree with your opinions on Evil Dead 1&2 and Army of Darkness.

You know, I recall the hero going into the "head zombie's lair" in order to save the entire town. At that point, I was annoyed. But Slither ALMOST made up for it with the epic failure of his plan. I forget exactly what happened, but I'm pretty sure it involved a homemade grenade of some sort. Anyway, I recall the hero totally ****ing that up, and that being the single most hilarious thing in the entire freaking movie. I mean, that was his big moment to shine, and he has what he thinks is this great plan. Then he fails. Epically. And that was funny as hell.

Of course, he still finds a way to save the day, but that unexpected Epic Screwup ALMOST made up for the lame cliched ending.

You pointed out a cliche before that I had never even noticed. I must know more cliches, I MUST KNOW MORE, TELL ME!!
