Most overrated and underrated musicians?

For me, Radiohead is the most overrated modern band. Their "innovation" is often just cleverly disguised dissonance.

For underrated, Jack Johnson ;). People dismiss him just 'cause he used to be a pro surfer and is played in Hollister, but he's really got a great and unique sound.

What are your guys most over and underrated bands?

Overrated - I'd probably go with Slayer. I've liked a total of 5 songs by them, and I've heard all of their first three albums and a few off their other albums(and those albums are supposed to be crap anyways). XD

Underrated - Maybe Cacophony? Jason Becker and Marty Friedman are both incredibly talented guitarists, and they put it to great use in Cacophony, but nobody knows about them...XD

Overrated - The Beatles, The Beach Boys, any popular Disney singer, U2, Coldplay, The Cure... and a lot others

Overrated: Nickleback

Underrated: Dax Riggs without a doubt. Unbelievable musician. Lead singer of Acid Bath and Agents of Oblivion, great, great, great, voice and amazing songwriter and lyricist. He's doing this solo blues rock thing right now and it's absolutely amazing.

Underrated: Super furry animals, Scott Walker, Throwing Muses, Pulp, Blur, Robyn Hitchcock, Screaming trees, For Squirrels, Mansun, Kent, Teenage fanclub, XTC, Belle & Sebastian, James, Lupine Howl, Pale Saints, Beautiful south, Housemartins, and Boo Radleys.

Overrated- Pink Floyd, U2, and our top 100 songs today. Underrated- the Stones Roses, great band. Inspired Oasis to play, to bad they didn't really make it anywhere outside of the Uk in the early 90's. John Squire (guitarist for the Stone Roses)is also one of the most underrated guitarist. Almost everyone I know has no idea who he is.

Underrated - Anthrax, why are they not more popular? They are a great Speed Metal band, listen to Spreading The Disease and Among The Living and see for yourself.

But, I don't care for Cacophony, his solo stuff is amazing though... stupid als =(

Anyway... Overrated - THE VAST MAJORITY OF MUSIC (primarily vocal-centric types), including some people's 'underrated' stuff.. like megadeth... seriously, They are Underrated?!?.... Horrible vocals, and marty left a long time ago.

Underrated - Vast majority of non-vocal-centric music, such as Jason Becker's Solo stuff, Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Buckethead(EXTREAMLY HIT OR MISS), Wieniawski, Tchaikovski... ect.------------ And for the more vocal type music, I've never heard people refer to Racer-X once.. they're pretty great =)... and Tool I've read sometimes as overrated, but I still believe after all these years, it's one of the very few Good bands.

Overrated - Any death or black metal vocalist

Underrated - Samuel Ramey. Well, almost any classical musician, but I just really like Samuel Ramey.

Nope I can see what he's getting at. But IMO Anthrax get all the attention they deserve, they're easily one of the best thrash bands but aren't as good as the other three big four (oh and I'm talking about EARLY Metallica so don't flame me guys).
