Hideki Matsui from the Yankees. The guy is just there playing barely over mediocre in the outfield and is the walking example of the difference between the ease of hitting homeruns in the Japan Leagues and the comparative difficulty of hitting them in MLB, but because he's from Japan he is pretty much given a pass. There are better Japanese players in MLB that they could be lumping praise on.

Eli Manning comes in a close second. The Giants' Superbowl winning team is an example of the sum of the whole being worth more than adding up the individual pieces. Yet, ESPN and other media outlets want to act like he's just as good as Peyton now.

And no, this isn't an "I hate NY" post...it's just coincidence.

I'm so freakin tired of people comparing anyone with Gretzky, like do you realize how drastically the NHL has changed since Gretzky retired? Like rules, all the extra padding, rules, everything? I mean all you have to do is watch a video on youtube about Gretzky, to see how skimpy all the pads were, how different the game actually was. Gretzky has records no one will ever touch, you can't blame Crosby/Ovechkin/etc for not being able to get a 200 plus point season in the present day NHL. You put any of them in the "old" nhl and they get similar numbers to Gretzky.

Everyone is always saying "Crosby is the next Gretzky."

Sorry if I'm the one person who doesn't agree.

except he does an exceptional job as a reciever. They don't even use him to run the ball much so he gets most of his touches catching the ball where he has excelled and is arguable one of the best recieving backs next to westbrook and LT

Exactly. Matsui missed much of the season with a knee injury and couldn't contribute. How a player that didn't miss a single game his first three years with the Yankees and hits consistently is considered overrated is beyond me.

And let's not forget that under Eli, the Giants have started 3-0 this season. There are a lot of overrated players in sports, these two are nowhere near being considered that.

EDIT: Also, Tom Brady is not overrated. Look at how his team is doing without him, they don't look like the Patriots. Lost horribly to my Dolphins. So, I think he should just retire... so Miami never has to deal with him again.

Derek Jeter is incredibly overrated. He's just marketable because he has good looks. Every game he plays in there's women screaming incessantly and cheering him like he's a rock-star. It really is a joke. He's a clutch player for the most part, but really not great at all. Overrated.

I guess you missed the part where it says "in your opinion".

BTW - Matsui only had 45 RBIs in 93 games this year. Prorated, that would be about 70 RBIs in a full season.

Oh so you're blaming that loss on Brady not being there? One player doesn't make that much of a difference.

Well Randy Moss and Wes Welker certainly looked like crap without having Tom Brady throw them the ball. Tom Brady didn't have any "great" receivers to throw to during his Super Bowl wins. I don't like Tom Brady, but I will give him credit where its due. Hes a great quarterback and does make a difference on his team.

Well, if you've seen Matsui with the Yomiuri Giants, you can see why I'm unimpressed with him with the Yankees. The guy wasn't called "Godzilla" in the Japan Leagues just because he needed another nickname. Now he can't crush one out of the park like he used to, and his fielding is suspect, so now he's DH....but he *isn't* overrated.

Homeruns are overrated is the real answer. RBIs, runs, batting average, on base percentage is where it counts.

Yep...NY fans taking things personally. Why is this not surprising?

Personally? No. I'm not even a Yankees fan. I'm just stating the obvious. A player who misses much of the season, and then comes back with a little less than a month left to play, can't possibly be considered when talking about someone being overrated. You can't judge a player on the games he did manage to get in because it's not possible to compare that to what he previously has accomplished. And in Matsui's case, he's been of the Yankees most consistent run producers in the seasons where he was healthy.

[QUOTE="_Brennan_"]It helps to have a ton of talent around you. It's not like Brady did it all himself.JC346

Also, I will add that it helps when you have the other teams' playbooks and video of their practices before playoff games. :P

Why do you keep ignoring this post? I just proved to you that Brady is overrated by posting this, but you haven't commented on it. When you have another teams plays on video, and have guys assigned to spy on your opponent, that gives you a definite advantage.

Ok. What does this have to do with Brady?

Brady, along with the rest of the team knew what the other team was going to do, that's what. I'm certain they wouldn't have won those SB's if they hadn't have been cheating.

They cheated on their first superbowl. How do you explain all of the other ones?

No it wasn't just the 1st one. It was ALL of them. Except for last year when they got their asses handed to them by the Giants! :P

I would have to say...well there are honestly a whole lot in professional sports, so I can't really pick just one. And let's not forget now how Tom Brady almost wasn't even drafted into the NFL. Not that it totally matters, but yea.

Babe Ruth coudln't've really done so well against some of the better pitchers in the black leagues they had back in the day.
