Alright, it wasn't hard to think of these bands, and they will raise arguements. These are the Big Hitters, basically the bands that can always sell stadiums and you just wonder "why?" I feel that way with AC/DC. All their stuff sounds the same and I think they are VERY overrated. What say you?

There is definitly a Version 3.0 coming as I had alot more bands I wanted to put on.

You must really have a lack of respect for musicianship.

I am torn between Kiss and AC/DC. One is all style, no substance, and one does the same simple thing over and over and over again. (though that really can apply to both I guess)

U2 has a couple songs I like but I agree with you on hating Bono. AC/DC I really don't like. Metallica used to be good but I can't stand them now. Never liked KISS. Aerosmith is decent but I am sick of them after all these years. Can I vote for all of the above? Screw it I will pick Metaliica

Please explain? I know these bands obviously have talent since they solid millions of records. I'm just saying alot of people (like me) feel that some shouldn't be so hyped. AC/DC has released the same record for 25+ years.

Metallica by far, at least within my circle of friends. They had their time, and that was a long time ago. I've never really cared much for their stuff to begin with.

I think he was trying for classic rock bands. Most of the Disney crap is relatively recent, I agree though it is all overrated crap.

and to conclude...

So I put my hands up, they're playin my song. The butterflies fly away.....

For a band to be overrated people have to like them in the first place. I don't think Nickelback has that problem .

It's just that you keep making these lists of popular bands with lot's of talent on board for people to come in and act like their "eclectic" tastes in indie and "lesser known" bands makes them so much better than the sheep that might occasionally support a band with a long and consistent history of albums and touring. I mean heaven forbid some people just wanna have a good time with some conventional rock once in a while.

Let's be real, some people here might have some musical talent, but the greatest guitarist forumite here couldn't wash Angus Young's socks. But I know this site well enough to know it really isn't the list that matters, it's all about the argument that follows, so carry on....

Wait why is Metallica winning by such a margin? Do people here know NOTHING about music? Metallica doesn't belong on this list let alone the WINNING BAND!

Anyways, this one is pretty easy. U2 by far. Did nothing to truely revolutionize music and really has no music I enjoy.

Kiss is an easy second and only fall behind U2 because I kind of enjoy Detroit Rock City and Rock and Roll All Nite.

AC/DC gets 3rd because while I enjoy some of their stuff (mainly off the Back in Black album) they are sooo simple and repetitive it isn't even funny.

Aerosmith comes next as I don't find them bad at all and don't see people giving them alot of cred.

And as said Metallica should not even be on this list. They helped create thrash metal (which happens to be one of my fav metal sub-genres) and on top of that they have 3 great albums and 2 just good albums with alot of other crap which is alot more GOOD stuff than most bands ever put out.

Hey, I LOVE Metallica. I have the Metallica Star tattoo. I put them on because they were mentioned alot in the last list, and alot of people don't like them. They perfer Slayer or Megadeth. I personally love Kill 'Em All, Master, Ride, Justice, (somewhat) Black, Load and Death Magnetic. I grew up on these guys and have no shame admitting they're in my top 3 of all time.

But as you can see, people love to hate them mostly due to Black and the terrible, terrible St. Anger.

Well these threads look like they just might show how awful OT is when it comes to music. So many people get caught up in counter-culture here it is ridiculous. Anyone with a decent knowlege of music knows how much Metallica has done for metal and there is no reason to sit there and hate on the band as a whole for a couple of bad albums amongst their much bigger collection of GOOD music.

I see alot of crap indie bands mentioned on here to the point where I have almost decided that if the band they are mentioning is one I haven't heard before, they probably suck....

All the bands listed except U2, I like a good deal of songs from them. As much as I tried liking U2, I just couldn't. But... I guess I could see why people like U2. Kinda, sorta... So... going with U2

Get over it already. Yeah alot of people like Metallica and alot of people don't. Just because people are calling Metallica overrated does not necessarily mean they are trying to be counter-culture. I used to like Metallica but I really can't stand them now. Their music is played constantly on the radio where I live. Its boring already and I am sick of it. Hence why I voted for them as most overrated.

I get that, and yeah I could actually see Nickelback being in this kind of discussion. But look at the others, Metallica innovators in thrash, technical guitar mastery, calendar years doing 200+ live shows. AC/DC, Angus Young is master of the power chord, duck walk, and his school boy outfit is absolutely iconic. Every member of Aerosmith has been with the band for almost 40 years, Steven Tyler has a four octave vocal range, you just don't see that in rock singers. Kiss changed live shows forever. U2, has won like what 20 some Grammys, I'm not saying that I think the world of a Grammy, but you don't win upwards of 20 if you're a mediocre band in over your head.

All of these bands have phenomonal live shows (I've seen 3 of them,) and music that has rooted itself deeply into our culture. I may just feel that a counterpoint is good to have or I may just find it silly to call any of them overrated. You may not like them but calling them crap just seems ignorant.

AC/DC wins this by a longshot. None of the others come close to matching their quality of music to popularity ratio.

I wanted to do one more bracket. Would you rather a pop bracket with bands like these, or a British Invasion with bands like Oasis and Coldplay?

I wanted to do one more bracket. Would you rather a pop bracket with bands like these, or a British Invasion with bands like Oasis and Coldplay?

That's a hard decision .... I'd go with British invasion.

[QUOTE="Mushrooom_Man"]

U2 with ease...
And in the final battle you should include The Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus.

Kid's bands? Why?

Why not? :P

LostProphetFLCL

Kill em' All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and ...And Justice for All versus St. Anger, Black Album, Death Magnetic, Load, Reload.

Looks like it's been 4 good albums vs 5 mediocre to terrible albums. If you want to be fair, Metallica is a 50/50 band. Shows how much you know about music I guess.

I don't know the only times they've really fell short in my eyes (or ears) was with Reload and St. Anger, (which to be fair I didn't give much of a chance at the time.) What do you mean saying "shows how much you know about music" to the guy? He's just giving his opinion, same as you or me.

I'll definitely go with U2, since there were many people I know at school that hated them.

I just don't see why people hate them, I know they have almost 2,000,000 listeners on last.fm. I know stuff like Lil Wayne is overrated, which is the Nickelback of rap/hip-hop. Although, I still like Nickelback. :P My dad loves Nickelback, though.

Yes but I asked why you called them over rated.

They're just overrated, I don't find them to be that good, though.

ACDC by far. They have the same couple of power chords and that's it. The others at least try new things (most of them suck) but ACDC seems content to rehash the same thing for the last 25 years. Also I hate Bono. The guy wants to change the world stop making crappy albums and touring and just go to humanitarian stuff! You haven't made a good album in a long time why waste our time you're the super rich white guy trying to save the world why not make that your full time job?
