I would say Daniel Day Lewis, and Paddy Considine are pretty consistant. Least consistent would probably be someone like Val Kilmer. I love him, but his films these days have been pretty bad other than a few like Kiss kiss bang bang, Bad Lieutenant: Port of call new orleans, and The Salton sea.

I would say Gary Oldman is freakishly consistent. Sadly, the quality of the movies he plays in isn't. :(

Most consistent: Nicolas Cage. When he's in a good movie, it's good. When he's in a bad movie, it's hilarious. He wins both ways.

Least consistent: Oh god, there's just too many to count here...

Nick Cage is very inconsistent, sometimes you're like "Damn can this man act" other times your like "WTF IS THIS MAN DOING?!" Daniel Day Lewis always puts on a good show, as does Steve Buscemi

Since you mentioned Bad Lieutenant, I'm surprised that you didn't mention Nicholas Cage.

I actually like Cage, but he's HORRIBLY inconsistent. Both in how well he acts, and in what kind of movies he chooses to act in. He can be really good when he really wants to, but he has had a bad habit of taking horrible roles for a paycheck, and totally phoning in a performance in movies that are obviously going to be garbage. Nic Cage is inconsistent as hell.

George Clooney is pretty consistent. He always seems to give it 100%, rarely "phones it in". And even when he stars in a stinker, I usually end up hating the movie but still having liked George Clooney.

I also really like Naomi Watts. Haven't seen many of her movies, but she's been good in everything I've seen her in.

Johnny Depp: also an actor who stars in his fair share of crap, but always comes out looking good because he takes it seriously.

When Cage is good though he can be fantastic. Matchstick men, Bad Lieutenant, Leaving las vegas, wild at heart, Weather man, Read rock west, and bringing out the dead show he has talent. I also think that Viggo Mortensen has been pretty consistent recently, though Hidalgo wasn't great.

Consistent- Sylvester Stallone (No explanation needed)

Mickey Rourke (been a big tough guy)

Nicholas Cage (usually the hero like in Face/Off even though it really wasn't him, The Rock, Bangcock Dangerous, Knowing even though he dies in the last two)

Jack Black (crazy, goofy, and funny, although I don't know why he was in King Kong)

Least- Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 Days of Summer to Cobra Commander?)

Cuba Gooding Jr. (Hardwired he was a action hero, Snow Dogs he is a comedian, in The Chill Factor he is both?)

The Rock (Wrestling, to action, to kids movies for Disney?)

Will Smith bugs me some times. The thing is he is just a decent actor. nothing more, nothing less. It's beyond me how he ever survived after Fresh Prince of Bel Air. His acting wasn't exceptional, in fact, I expected him to die out like everyone else on the show :?

This is so true, Will Smith is really an average actor. But he's such a likable guy and naturally funny, his movies dominate the box office. He only really stood out in "Pursuit of Happiness" everything else is meh.

Absolutely agree with Daniel Day Lewis being one of the most consistent. He doesn't do a lot of films, but when he does, he nails it. Everytime. Least consistent, I'm not too sure, but I'd be willing to nominate Christian Bale. He does fantastic in some roles, and then pretty mediocre in others (i.e. 3:10 to Yuma, and Public Enemies.)

Liam Neeson is damn consistent at kicking ass.dreDREb13
I love Liam Neeson. He is one of those actors I watch movies for. Anyone have that? Sometimes you will watch a movie simply because a certain actor is in it, disregarding whether or not the synopsis sounds interesting or what the critics say? For instance, I will watch practically anything with Nathan Fillion, because that guy is awesome and just oozes charm. The movie may suck, but his parts are superb. For instance, the show "Castle" is pretty mediocre when it comes to the stories and the writers, but Nathan Fillion's performance alone makes it worth watching. Denzel is also another of those actors. I have a few more, but am too lazy to list em.

I'd argue that Johnny Depp is pretty consistent. Even in pretty bad movies he tends to make them a lot better. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory comes to mind. The movie was pretty iffy but I loved what Depp did with the character, especially in having to live in the shadow that Gene Wilder created. Inconsistent: Will Smith. He's been in some stinkers, but he's also had some pretty decent performances. Pursuit of Happyness is an example of a wonderful movie where he is in a role very outside his norm, Hancock is a prime example of a bad movie with him in his action hero suit. Are we talking about consistency of type of role or performance?
