• David and Frances Champion have been jailed for assaulting their daughter, 17, and her boyfriend Aflonce Ncube in a racist attack
• The Judge described their actions as 'vile' and 'disgraceful'
  
• Mr Champion told Jane that she had brought 'shame to the family' while he beat her
• The Champions tried to find Mr Ncube as he hid in the restaurant where he worked while they screamed racial abuse

i thought this only happens with middle eastern people and 99 percent muslims. She could have easily been killed or had serious injuries from this. So can we

assume the bible insights hate ? like how we had a thread about the Quaran doing the same thing ? (i know it does not say it in the book but it "insights it".

Another senseless act of violence brought on by the stupidity of people.

At least justice was served, that's the important thing.

I don't really understand why this is news. Yes, it is a stupid reason to beat a daughter, but there is no unstupid reason to beat a daughter.

I suppose this thread is a comment on how there's generally an emphasis on culture/religion, when incidents like this, revolve around muslims.

Look, in that thread about the Muslim parents who murdered one of their daughters, it was absolutely clear that it was religiously motivated. There's no doubt about that whatsoever.

But no one said that honor killers can only be Muslim, even though I think it's reasonable to assume that the majority of honor killers happen to be Muslim (which does not in itself imply that Islam encourages honor killing, though I personally believe that Islam strengthens - intentionally or otherwise - the cultural framework that "justifies" honor killing). And FYI, a great majority of Muslims do not kill in the name of family honor. Most Muslims I know wouldn't dream of doing that because they actually have compassion.

And yes, it's not like Islam is alone in this regard; other religious texts can be used to justify violence and hatred as well. That doesn't imply that Islam is totally okay, though.

However I think it is dangerous to look at another culture and critique it based on their beliefs and history, which is fine, but then shrug off western parallels of the issue as isolated cases.

Well, you're lucky, then; I've heard countless people say things like "But Christianity also condones *insert something morally reprehensible*!" in defense of Islam as if bringing up the bad stuff in Christianity refutes the idea that Islam is violent. I only see bringing up other religions as relevant if we're talking about, say, whether Islam is the most violent religion.

And I totally agree with you on your second point. There's no reason to shrugg off other instances of essentially the same thing.

Wait how did you infer the bible insights hate from that article? No where in the article did it mention religious affinity. I am really more perturbed by those that view the West as a moral high ground. The burkha laws in France or Belgium for example, where those states took it upon themselves to "help" Muslim women.

Or look at any feminism thread on OT, where many of the posters will even deny that sexism still exists (or the ever popular women have more power than men sentiment), yet we can all universally and effortlessly condone the institution of Islam for their treatment of women.
