I thought it was just really excessive. Something like Bonnie and Clyde says almost the exact same thing, except much earlier and with subtlety. I'm still confused about Downey Jnr's performance/accent too lol biggest_loserDespite our disagreements on Taken, I have to agree with this. After reading up on the film, it seems Stone takes his message and beats the viewer over the head with it until their skull caves in. The end scene in particular is guilty of this. "HAY GUYZ, AMERICAN MEDIA GLAMORIZES VIOLENCE AND THAT'S BAD! DO YOU GET IT YET!?"
It's not a masterpiece or anything, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. At times the satire was a bit too obvious to the point where it felt like I was getting ideas pounded into my head by repeatedly getting hit by a sledgehammer, but it's still fun to watch.
Above all else, it was certainly a memorable movie, and I liked it far more than I disliked it. So I give it thumbs up.
As far as Robert Downey Jr's performance, that **** was absolutely intentional, I guarantee it. On one hand, it was a great performance because it accomplished EXACTLY what the performance was supposed to be. On the other hand, I can definitely see that as just another example of the satire losing its impact by being to blatantly obvious. So...take from that what you will, but I have a strong suspicion that any "bad acting" from Robert Downey Jr wasn't his fault. I always got the impression that he was imply playing the character. If the character happens to suck, then that's not exactly his fault.
Downey Jr. was best part of the movie. But overall, it was not my cup of tea. cheeselover
Really? I thought that Woody Harrelson was the best part of the movie.
Downey didn't do a bad job, but his character was never supposed to be a cartoon in the first place. Woody Harrelson's character wasn't all that great, but at least he was allowed to exhibit a certain level of humanity. And he pulled that off just fine, to the extent that the story allowed.
aka overall: 17/20 aka 8.5/10 aka: 'pretty decent'?I'd give the first half a 7/10 and the second half (jail) a 10/10. Overall, I thought it was pretty decent even if it got a littletoo psychodelic in the first half.

haha good point. I guess it wasn't the sum of it's parts for me. Maybe if the second half was expanded into a whole movie I'd rate it high, but the fact that it feels like 2 seperate movies with one half being better than the other I don't like it as much (although Full Metal Jacket is one of my favorite movies and that is the same deal)
