Waner Bros. has announced that the latest franchise from the DC Universe to be turned into a film will be Green Lantern. First time director Greg Berlanti will be heading the project.

Is it me, or does it seem like that Warner Bros. is making too many DC Comics movies at once? Between Superman Returns, The Dark Knight,JLA, The Flash, and a stalled WonderWoman film, It just seems like they're trying to do too much all at once. I guess they're trying to copy the suscess that Marvel has had with their movies in recent years. But then again, Marvel movies have been developed by multiple studios, while Warner (Which owns DC Comics) is trying to work multiple comic movies, all in one studio, wich will probably be coming out all within the next 3-5 year period. It seem like we're heading into a comic movie overload.

Yikes.

I agree. Too much overkill with all these cartoon to movie deals. Besides that, the Green Lantern wasn't a major superhero...IMO

I can see it a scene from the movie now. Green Lantern is engaged in a fight to the death and then falls to his needs from exhaustion.

They're also doing The Watchmen, which damn well better be as good as the graphic novel.

I don't understand why movie companies think that just because the big name comic superhero movies work (X-Men, Spider-Man, Batman, Superman) that any other superhero movie will work.

Basically, I have no interest in Green Lantern.

I expect many fights scenes that consist of the hero standing stationary with his fist thrust forward.

I don't follow comics or anything like that, but what is so significant about the Green Latern, that they need to make a movie for him? What's his powers?

Give it time...as it is, there's been some runblings about one for awhile. It wouldn't suprise me if Warner does decide to make one.

Odds are it'll be a spin-off of JL just like the Flash will be.

Personally i think that if they choose to do JL out of continuty with the current Batman and Superman series, tie it in with Smallville, it's already introduced the majority of the characters needed for a JL film and they've already made a successful episode with it.

Also DC making too many movies at once?

JL, Man of Steel and the Dark Knight are all thats current being made, Man of Steel only barely since it's now looking for script writers. Dark Knight is all but finished and JL starts shortly. Flash will likely be made in the wake of JL since it'll be using the same character. Wonder Woman is all but dead and Green Lantern will probably follow Flash. Marvel on the other hand have 16 films being made, now thats too much, considering they haven't made a good film since or before X-Men 2 because they have quite literally confessed to just be making movies for no other reason than to get money. There was no demand for a bloody Ghost Rider film, hardly anyone knew who the hell he was. At least with DC you know the characters.

Nobody cares about Ant Man, nobody liked the Hulk (yet they thought it best to remake the 5 year old film because, thats right, they want more money) nobody liked Punisher or the Fantastic Four. Yet they are all either being made or getting sequels that people will go and see because Marvel know how to market it right.

I'm not saying DC don't want to make money, thats just stupid, but DC aren't making films based on characters nobody knows or cares about just because they get money from it. For a long time there has been demand for a JL film as well as Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and the Flash and thats why they are all being made.

I think that's another concern with the fans--continuity. That's the one thing that the DC films can do that the Marvel films cannot. You can have Green Lantern appear in the Flash film, being that both films are made by Warner Bros.Weither or not they'll do something like this is anyone's guess.

I hope he actually fights some epic superhero and doesn't just get his ring, say the oath, and do some lame escort missions. I never read the GL comics but I kno that the Lanters are pretty cool.

Well we know for sure Bale and Rouths incarnations of the characters won't appear in the other ones. It might even be safe to say that Bale and Rouths character are both in separate continuity as well, considering the drastic overhaul Batman got, the series won't even feature villains that are remotely comic-esque.

Assuming the Green Lantern is the same one from the JL film theres a chance he will appear in the Flash or vice versa. All we know for sure is that Flash and JL are in the same continuity. Even thought for a while it was potentially Smallville continuity. The good thing about DC's varing continuty is it opens it up for interrepation. Not everyone likes Smallville but they have about 5 different incarnations of Superman on the go at once so that should get more people into the character since it appeals to such a wide audience. Spider-Man has pretty much 2 outs, the movies (which were really nothing special) and the cartoon which is apparently based off of the movie.

They haven't announced which GL is based off of yet. The script has yet to be written; only the director was announced, and it's a first time director at that.
