Movie News: Partial Cast For Live-Action Dragonball Z Movie Announced

Casting news for what will probably another train wrek of a movie for Fox has been announced for their live action version of Dragonball Z has been announced. Justin Chatwin (War of the Worlds) has been cast as Goku, while James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will be the villian of the film. The article hasn't properly announced WHAT villian he will play, but it will probably be either Vegetta or Picollo.

The only good thing that might come out of this whole bad idea of a film is that the director of Kung-Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer, Stephen Chow is producing the movie. Why didn't they just get him to direct as well? It might have somewhat entertaining; as it is, they went with the guy who directed Final Destination, James Wong. Expect this movie to pollute theaters sometime next summer.

Guys I don't know why, but I'm not expecting this to be horrible. I think it'll come out as a mediocre, forget all about it type film, but I have faith in Chow, whose movies I love and could suit the DBZ type of action, to make sure this isn't a stinking pile of crap.shaza91

Having Chow as producer MIGHT be the only saving grace for this movie, but having the director of Final Destination helming the project, it doesn't seem like a good idea.

Hey I thought the first 2 Final Destination movies were surprisingly good. The 3rd one not so much....

I mean, does ANYONE give a flying **** about Dragonball any more.

But to be fair, I thought that a Transformers movie was about 20 years too late, and that one seemed to do okay. Maybe I just have poor filmmaking judgement.

This movie was in Development Hell for a few years. I'm suprised that the studio even decided to greenlight the project altogether.

I remember reading that the plot is Goku is a high school student with powers. Totally DBZ :|, totally.....uppercut-worthy. No amount of CGI will save this.

More and more I think of this and more and more do I think that the only way it could possibly work is if it were 100% real, with Goku's actor wearing 300 kg clothing and able to push himself 30 feet into the air after doing back handsprings, only to start fighting Piccolo's character while upside down in the air at extremely high speeds.

Does anybody know if that plot summary was confirmed or was it just BS?shaza91

The website that the story is from is one of the major Hollywood trade sites that report the information as they revieve it from the major studios, so as it stands right now, it's confirmed.

When you think about the premise of the cartoon, there is virtually no way this movie can succeed. It's going to be complete garbage. Try and envision to real live versions of Goku and Vegeta running around, flexing their muscles, shouting, and shooting various colors of energy out of their hands...it can't work.

Fortunately, it will make for a hilarious movie, and I will definitely be paying to see it in the theater...perhaps more than once.

Dragon Ball Z should have ended after the Cell Saga, and it should have taken about 60 less episodes to get that far. The Buu saga and GT rank among mankind's must heinous crimes, and the series as a whole had way too much filler. They need to leave this series alone. Maybe another Budokai Tenkaichi game, but that's it.SmashBrosLegend

Never thought I'd say this, but I'd much rather see game developers rehash a few more Budokai Tenkaichi games with 200+ characters than see this movie come to life, at least under that downright scarring article from Chud, which to me strikes me as nothing short of astounding that nothing has disproved it yet.

However if that plot summary changes I think I may let this movie slide by without trying to drag down Fox myself... >_>

Not only is a Dragonball Z movie cheesy enough, but with a teenage cast it's going to be laden with teen angst over-tones.

BTW the article says Marsters is playing Piccolo.

I really had no interest in this film beyond seeing the live action fights.

But with James Masters AKA Milton Fine AKA Brainiac on board my interest rose. This by no means will make it a good film, but at least Brainiac is in it...

I don't know the history of DBZ beyond the fact its anime, has impressive fights, is about aliens and the characters name so is Piccolo by any chance a Namek? Because it would be a nice coincidence if he went from really leading Nam-Ek to earth in Smallville to being Namek...

That's an awful, awful choice. Wouldn't they choose someone Asian? After all Dragonball is Japanese, Goku is meant to be of Asian appearance... James Marters as Piccolo seems an OK choice. They should have let the Japanese handle this movie. It will seem much more authentic. I smell a "Transformers" again...Red-XIII

I assume thats what most people would go to see it for. I doubt anyone will walk into Dragonball Z expecting something to rival the Godfather. What happened to people just wanting fun rides from films? Why does every movie these days need to have some deep substance or hidden meaning or something why can't it just be fun to watch?
