I found an interesting article about a new subscription service, called movie pass.

In short, its like netflix for movie theaters. For 50$ a month you can see any movie and every movie.

3d & Imax films will have an additional 3$ charge.

This sounds great to me. I miss most movies now (cost), but for 50$ a month I would be seeing everything.:D

Though, I have a feeling none of my local theaters would participate (knowing my luck  )

"# Users are limited to seeing one movie per day. We understand this limitation, but it's a bummer for those of us who like to see multiple movies on a rainy Saturday.
# Users can only see a movie one time. If you want to re-watch Transformers 3 or another summer blockbuster, you'll need to pay for your ticket."

Those plus the fact that it doesn't help pay for the overpriced popcorn/pop that I always get makes me want to pass on this. Lots of times I go to matinees anyway which are only like $6 a ticket. $50 a month is too high but if they knocked $10 or $20 off that price I'd be really tempted.

I can't imagine there being anywhere close to $50 of general release movies per month that I'd want to see, especially out of the summer popcorn movie season

Nah, usually there are only about 3 movies I want to see a month, and they usually never cost me over fifty bucks.

Way too much for the limitations imposed.

Fifty dollars is way too high for me. If they dropped the price, I could see myself getting the service. It would be better if it included snacks or something with the deal though.

I like the idea but there's very few films out that i really want to see these days and I'm not around the cinema much. However if I happened to live in the city near a good cinema and had some proper income then I'd seriously consider it.

That might be a good deal if I watched a lot of movies, but I don't.

And while $50 might be a good deal for what you're getting, it's still $50 a month. And if I realistically wouldn't expect to see more than about 4 or 5 movies a month anyway, then I'm better off just paying regular price.

$50 seems pricy since you can't see more than one movie a day and you can't see the same movie more than once.

So lets see, I have watched 22 films this year so far, at around an average price of 8 dollars (usually go to matinee's), spread out fairly equally over the past 6 months totaling about $176...now if I did this pass, it would have cost me $300 and I really would not have felt obligated to see anything else that had come out other than the 22 I have already seen. I do not see this working for anyone other than maybe film critics who do not go to screenings and see more than 7 films a month at theaters with high ticket prices.

My brother gets that deal over here for £15 a month without all the restrictions, but it's only with one chain of cinemas.

It really seems like the whole thing could charitably be described as "misguided". I just don't see any way that more than a handful of people would be interested in this. Even enthusiasts seems like they would wane as the season of their movies of choice (popcorn flicks in spring/summer, "serious" films in fall/winter) moves out. No repeats, one movie per day, the restrictions just seem like insult to injury.

I do agree, the pricing seems off for the current limitations(ones you noted), but I'm hoping like netflix that the service and price will quickly improve.

True. It's not a big chain where I live and It's still a 20 mile drive for him, so it's not exactly a daily thing, but he still manages to see basically all the new releases. It's a great deal if you're serious about films, as it's already paid for itself within two trips.

If my local theater actually got more movies I was interested in it would be worth it.

Shame it doesn't.

I'm going to guess the pass is for one person only, so you'd be paying $100 a month.

Pretty useless. Even if I went to see every movie I could a month (taking into account you can't see a movie more than once), I would still be paying less than $50 a month over a course of a few months. Is there any financial benefit to buying that at all?

I agree that there's definitely potential for this but unless they change the price and the restrictions there's no way it's gonna get anywhere.

Too expensive, there isn't a new movie every weekend that I would want to see either. Even if there was, that's like paying $12ish for 4 movies a month. Nahhh, rip off.

In Australia, it'll be good deal since it cost around $20 for an adult ticket. And everything is expensive here anyway.
