Topic. Also will be bringing a footlocker/trunk to put them in when not in use to prevent theft, which i will put a padlock on and then tie it to the bed.

Still, should i bring my PS3 and Xbox 360 to the dorms?

I'm definitely taking my PS3 this fall.

Bring them if you want, maybe your roommate already has a system.

leave em for the first little bit and see how that goes. (i assume you'll be going home at some point before year end) chances are other people will bring theirs and you can just use that instea dof "risking" yours to theft. also, you may lose interest in gaming all together because it happened to me when i went to college. so ya, try a dry run first.

i say you should for when you get bored. But hopefully since you are putting it in a trunk you won't get jacked. Its good that you thought of that b/c ppl get jacked when they aren't safe.

my roommate told me on Facebook that he was bringing his ps3, but i may bring mine just to give me something to do when bored.

Also, how would you prevent a monitor/flat screen TV from getting jacked?

Nobody ever claimed it was the best way, but it is undoubtedly a way to interact.

My brother's roommate in college didn't lock the dorm up when he went to shower in the community showers, and two dudes watched him go into the shower, then went back to the room and stole my brother's laptop and Xbox. If you take them, be careful.

yeah the theft is what makes me iffy on bringing my consoles. may just use my PC as a gaming platform instead, but then again i'll miss out on exclusives on either console.

Do you know how safe your campus is? (I know it's impossible for a school to be 100% theft-free, but there are better than others) Besides, your systems will be safe as long as you take necessary precautions. (Like not leaving your door open/unlocked when you're in class)

If you'll have your own room (suite-style) then I would take them for sure, if you're going to be in one room with strangers, and still want to take them, then get a big wooden chest, and keep your systems in there when not in use, then chain it to your bed when you're out of the room :D

Do you know how safe your school dorms are? And what kind of dorm is it? a Corridor, or a suite? (Corridor has rooms coming of one hallway, suite is more isolated, and cut off of the main hallway)

Going to class and doing homework is only a small part of college.

A big part of your experience will be meeting people and hanging out with friends, and for that you'll want your game consoles.

My fraternity used to have LAN parties all the time with four xboxes and 16 people playing Halo.

I would say it depends on the size of the dorm room.

If it's a small room, you'll want to save space by going with a monitor since you'll also be able to use it with your PC.

Leave them both at first and see how you feel. Since you're obviously really used to having them availabe all the time, you should try to start at college by doing different things with your free time. If you meet other people with whom you could play, then bring one back the first time you go home. I wouldn't recommend taking both; just more for you to worry about.

Also, if you absolutely must have one of them with you, don't take a nice TV. Get an older one in the 20-25 inch range, not a flat-screen, and use that. It's less likely to get stolen.

I'm only bringing my ps3... Because all of the University campus im going too has Wi-fi and I don't have the wi-fi adaptor for the 360.

That and I can play the 360 when I get home. And it means if its stolen I still have the other (Even tho I'm getting insurance for my laptop ps3 etc.)

Basically PS3 + Dawn of war + Total war = me sorted for Uni.... Btw yes I will play Empire: total war during lectures.

That's decent size. Maybe a small HDTV then. You should be able to find a 26 or 32 inch pretty cheaply.

I'm not sure what to tell you about locking up your game consoles.

I had a PS2, an Xbox, and a high end PC (Athlon, Geforce 3) in my dorm room back in 2001/2002 and never got robbed.

I was very careful about the kinds of people I brought back with me to the room, and always made sure to lock up when I left.

It helped that my roommate was a crazed drug addict who moved out within the first month, leaving me with a single.

I was in a suite, and had my personal bedroom, with my own door I could lock. I guess there will be different setups depending on where you go.
