Jee can't You check them both out and feel them? That is very very personal. Depends a lot on Your build, and i bet the training focusses on different things.

Owww You are going that direction. Well, if the styIe doesn't suit You, You won't be able to keep at it, trust me on that. And every fighting styIe teaches You to fight. It depends mostly on the school not the styIe. The best thing they teach You is to be familiar with close contact, so You will keep a cool head and respond accordingly in high stress situations.
If You are prone to get into fights, You will notice that by merely practicing a martial art You won't get into fights as easily. It's the whole attitude change.

Hmmm look. If someone seriously wants to fight You in a situation where You can't get out of, they will be with many or bigger or enraged, and probably carry a knife. In such a situation it's very good if You stay in control but more likely than not You are screwed anyway. You either find a way out, or find a way to make them go. It's not pretty. There is no winning in fighting.
There is no half fighting either. What happens when You leave them alive or filled with hatred? They will be back for revenge. What happens if You fight and You don't want to kill them? They might end up dead, and then what?
If You fight, let it be to the end, or at least the end of their morale. BJJ doesn't limit You to BJJ. Doing wrestling doesn't mean You are not allowed to break their nose. Doing boxing doesn't mean You can't fire a pistol. They all help, they don't limit You.

Krav Maga.

Although you don't have the foundations to build basics, in this age and time, it's the most practical to learn and master. Application wise also, it's the most convenient(disarming opponents). Of course fighting against a Wing Chun master or so will get your ass kicked, but otherwise most petty thieves are common muggers and have no professional fighting experience(if they do you're out of luck).

That's ok, it's my opinion that You best ask the trainer to demonstrate, to watch one training, or even better to have a friendly spar with one of the students, so that You can feel the styIe. Also, i would ask about their ideas on fighting, and the ideas of their styIe on fighting. Most schools do these things by themselves if You show interest so it shouldn't take much effort.
Hmm i seriously recommend You do that if You haven't yet. It's hard to imagine You can't make a decision after doing this, and i am sure it will be the right decision.
Just trying to help. I just don't think You should listen to what other people say on the subject, it is so personal.

Depends what you're looking for. BJJ seems a bit more strategic, interesting, and doesn't involve having your head kicked in every day during sparring. I just find learning holds to be fun/interesting...more so than learning how to punch. That said, I suppose Muay Thai would have more to offer in the way of straight out street fighting/self-defence.

Between the two I would say BJJ..having studied it for 2 years it is a great man to man martial art..however if pure street fighting applications is what youa re looking for...Try Krav Maga...one of the most direct and no nonsense martial arts there is. Think of it as the anthasis to flashier forms like Wu Shu and Taekwan Do. Fast Bone breaks...heavy elbow work...groin and throat hits..many disarming techniques (for armed opponets)..Used in training of the Israeli Militrary and by in large one of (if not the most) deadly martial art on the planet....if you watch any of the Riddick movies his martial art is patterned after a combination of Escrima and Krav Maga.

Ok if You really want a second opinion i could only say: get the one which hits You the least on the head. May seem a little awkward thing to say, but it isn't very healthy to get hit in the head constantly, especially if You are a teenager Your brains won't like it much.

My personal reason for choosing my fighting styIe was that i am not build very tough nor flexible, and because the practicioners at this school were vile and evil but very friendly and understanding. Ruthless thinkers. The styIe really suited my character. Everything had to make sense. I was quite impressed with everything about them. I quit after a while though, and i'll warn You for this.
At some point You can feel like You shouldn't go anymore, and You don't understand why. That's the stressful situations actually getting through to Your mind. When that happens, ask them to take it a little easier on You for now and don't keep going if it keeps feeling bad, but accept it and DO come back when You think You can. It'll be less bad than You think in Your mind. Almost everyone goes through this and most give up, but it's a shame.

Then you want Krav Maga. The entire point is to defend yourself in street fights. Brutal, no rules self defense.

Good luck then. Anything except Karate will help you in a street fight. But, if that is the direction you're going, take boxing. In a real streetfight ANYTHING can happen. The man who gets the first punch to the face, almost always wins. So, if you want to streetfight, train in boxing and land that first hit before the other guy does. OR just carry a knife around. In real life just don't put yourself in a position to get into a fight. The guy could VERY easily be carrying a knife, or a pipe. In which he does, you're flat out screwed. Anyway, my opinion is boxing. It has helped me out in brawls and it is a very good close combat technique if you just aim for the neck.
