I've noticed this "trend" in music... Whenever an album gets released, the japanese release almost always has extra bonus tracks not available elsewhere. Why? What's so special about Japan??

CD's probably sell hella more there. >>; There are a ton of people.

EDIT: Or the tracks are probably added due to the release being later? (Giving them more time to put it on there...)

ive noticed that some bands have added some B sides to the albums over there i suppose to compensate for the lack of singles being released, but then oasis add exclusive tracks, and also then sing different songs to anywhere else in the world out there

If you get big in Japan, you usually generate an enormous amount from merchandise and a very devote fanbase.

International albums tend to have more tracks than the American album.

But it's not just american bands. European, as well. But I guess it makes sence if an american band would release extra tracks oversees... Cool sig/avatar, btw.

Yes Japan seems so important for the music industry.

Why, though?

Just for the sales being bigger there like others said?

The sales are big and the Japanese actually adore a lot of fairly obscure bands. However, a lot of the bigger releases and compilation albums are missing tracks for their Japanese releases, at least in the metal industry. They usually end up making up for it with some exclusive tracks which makes me jealous...:x

yeah on the japanese oasis "Dig out your Soul" album, there are two extra songs which we in the UK dont get, unless we purchase the deluxed 2cd set.

I have noticed this trend, and im actually quite unsure as to why. Perhaps its to get more sales from foreign bands who dont make as much over in japan and the extra tracks appeal to them more, and over here in the UK, most people will happily buy the normal Oasis album and then maybe the extended version.

Why not ask the record companies?

I bet other countries where music is very expensive or rare, they have bonus tracks as well.

The Japanese are very mistrusting of credit cards. Because of this online shopping isn't anywhere near as big as in the west (even Amazon had a hard time getting off the ground) so music things like iTunes doesn't do as well. Therefore people get CDs instead of downloads, so shops have to stock a much larger variety of music to compensate. In order to stand out a lot of bands record special tracks to stick a "Exclusive to Japan" sticker on the case. Rather elaborate but there we are. :P
