How many of you listen to music in foreign languages? Do you find yourself listening to once kind of genre in that language? State what language, genre, and your favorite band/artist and song of that language, and why you love them. Also, make links if you can. Aside from natural curiosity, I would actually like everyone to be exposed to other kinds of music and broaden their horizons if possible. Comment on other people's tastes, but respect the TOU.

Right now, I am loving French music. I can't define what genre this might be, but I love this song because it sounds so elegant.

Heres the link and artist name: Au Port - Camille

English is a foreign language to me... so pretty much all. But if you want Portuguese music, i suggest you listen to this. Video is pretty lame, though. It's the thing I'm proudest of Portuguese music.

If you're wondering, it's played with a Portuguese Guitar, which contains 12 cords. Pretty awesome. :)

Some Spanish stuff most notably Mago De Oz. Alot of Finnish and Norwegian bands a couple would be Korpkilaani, Finntroll. Japanese the legendary X-Japan.

I didn't like the first ten seconds because it sounded kind of random but after listening to it, I really really like it and I can see the kind of talent this man has had. That is some...hauntingly romantic music. Thanks for the link. :D

No problem. 8)

The man is actually nicknamed "The man with a thousand fingers", and he was the best of the best. The man played 12 cord guitars, better than most with electrical ones.

And the purpose of most of the musics from his genre (it's called "fado", which means destiny) is to be sad. Very sad.

Spanish, English and Japanese.

Japanese have that high pitched voice that sounds so peaceful :O

My favorite song now is Angel (Once In Your Lifetime) by Belinda.

Some Rammstein and Molotov, but otherwise I don't listen to anything out of English very much. I don't even listen to those often. (The bands I listed, not 'I don't listen to English music either')

Only one I can think of right now is Sigur Ros. To be honest, I don't usually go looking for music with vocals in a different language -- I base how much I like a certain artist's music by the way it sounds and not what they are saying. There are times though, where I hear really catchy music, especially stuff like J-pop; however, catchy music doesn't stick to me so much, unless if it's really good. So whenever there is music that I like, and it's in a different language, I just think of the voice as an instrument.

Well, unfortunately, music like this is really hard to find... even in Portugal. You can always find "fado", but not like this. This almost has it's own style. Sorry.

But if you want, you can google "Carlos Paredes" for yourself.

You don't have to understand every word to know the feelings they are singing about. Heck most music in English doesn't make sense if you take it literally anyway :?

Well, probably Japanese (Asian Kung-fu Generation, L'Arc~en~Ciel), Russian (Mumiy Troll, Splean), and German (Museum, Pierogi Express)...Those are really the only foreign bands I know...I don't want to download their songs though, I actually want to get their CDs...>.>

I'm intrigued, what is their music like? Actually, I'm swedish so I'll just list some super awesome swedish songs instead; Blå Tåget (Blue Train); "Den ena handen vet vad den andra gör"(I'm not even going to translate that) Ebba Grön; Staten och KapitaletDie Mauer Knutna Nävar; Dom Ljuger DLK; Ishockeyfrisyr This is the greatest song ever! Greatest band name also(De Lyckliga Kompisarna) which means "The Happy Friends" You wanted me to talk about the genres aswell, eh? Well, both Blå Tåget and Knutna Nävar plays something called "Progg" and Ebba Grön and DLK plays punk rock.
